Getting to know Hayley Johnson

I’m Hayley Johnson, MSN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 16 years of experience in nursing across medical, rehabilitation, home health, and behavioral health settings. I work with adolescents and adults (ages 12+) who are experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, panic, and stress-related concerns. Many of my patients are individuals who appear high-functioning on the outside but feel overwhelmed internally, struggle with focus or emotional regulation, or feel stuck despite trying to manage things on their own. My approach to care is collaborative, thoughtful, and individualized. I take the time to understand the full picture of what someone is experiencing, including medical history, lifestyle factors, and possible biological contributors such as thyroid imbalance, vitamin deficiencies, or hormonal changes when appropriate. Together we develop a treatment plan that may include medication management, education, and practical strategies to support mental wellness. Patients often appreciate that I provide a structured and thorough evaluation while maintaining a warm, respectful environment where they feel comfortable discussing difficult topics. My goal is to help patients better understand what they are experiencing and to create a treatment plan that supports greater stability, clarity, and overall well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New patients can expect a thoughtful and collaborative approach to care. The first appointment is a comprehensive evaluation where we take time to understand what you have been experiencing, how symptoms are affecting your daily life, and any medical, psychological, or life factors that may be contributing. Many people come in feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to start, or worried about being judged. My goal is to create a space where you can talk openly and feel heard while we work together to understand what is going on. If medication is appropriate, we will discuss options carefully, including potential benefits, risks, and alternatives. Medication decisions are made collaboratively and are only one part of treatment. We also focus on education, practical strategies, and understanding patterns that may be affecting mental health. My approach is structured but compassionate, with the goal of helping you gain clarity, stability, and a treatment plan that feels manageable and supportive of your long-term well-being.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first visit typically begins with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. We will talk about the concerns that brought you in, your current symptoms, and how they are affecting daily life. I also review medical history, past treatments, medications, and relevant life stressors to help build a clear picture of what may be contributing to your symptoms. Based on this evaluation, we discuss possible diagnoses and develop an individualized treatment plan. When appropriate, treatment may include medication management, education about mental health conditions, and practical strategies to support emotional regulation and overall well-being. Medication decisions are made collaboratively. I take time to explain options, expected benefits, potential side effects, and alternative approaches so that patients feel informed and comfortable with the plan. Follow-up appointments focus on monitoring progress, adjusting treatment when needed, and continuing to support long-term stability and symptom improvement. My goal is to provide care that is structured, thoughtful, and responsive to each patient’s unique needs.
