About Heather Martin

This provider is not licensed in the state of CT, MA, MD, NY, IN, OK, OR, PA, TN, WA, HI, MT, IL, VT Heather is a registered and licensed dietitian practicing clinical and community dietetics since 2011. Prior to becoming an RD, she was a certified childbirth educator, and pursued RD credentialing after realizing that her favorite part of teaching was helping new families improve their diets by learning basic nutrition and meal planning skills. Before working in outpatient care, her primary practice was hospital-based, but she has worked in a variety of other settings, including employee health, and support group facilitation. She is also a freelance writer for outlets such as the TODAY Show's Food and Health sections and Texas Monthly. Heather's nutrition philosophy is that a healthy diet can be enjoyable and achievable for the average person. Although she has a passion for trying all kinds of new cuisines and attempting complicated recipes, she believes anyone can have good nutrition with simple, familiar foods and basic cooking techniques. People are often afraid to tell their dietitian what they really eat, but Heather feels nutrition counseling is a no-judgement zone. She was a vegetable-hater as a child, so she knows firsthand that positive change is possible, and really enjoys helping people learn to care for themselves, one plate at a time. It's important for Heather to get a sense of your personal and family medical history, because those things will determine the nutrition education portion of the first meeting. But, it's equally important that she get a sense of what your life is like, so that you can translate the framework of your nutritional needs into actual grocery lists, recipes, and restaurant choices. There are ten thousand ways to eat a healthier diet, and to find the ones that are right for you, expect to talk over your food preferences, time constraints, whether you like to cook, and daily life.
