Getting to know Heather Morrison

My name is Heather Morrison, and I am so happy to have you here! I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specializing in mental health care for children in PreK-12th grade, college-age students, and adults navigating life transitions. I earned my PhD in Nursing from the University of Connecticut and completed a Post-Master's Certificate in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I am board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. I will guide and support you through every stage of yours and your child's mental health evaluation and treatment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I offer a supportive, judgment-free space where you can feel heard and understood. My approach is collaborative and compassionate, grounded in clinical knowledge and a genuine desire to help you thrive. I offer guidance, resources, and support tailored to your unique needs. I specialize in working with children and adolescents from kindergarten through 12th grade, offering developmentally appropriate and compassionate medication management for ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and behavioral challenges. My approach emphasizes collaboration—with parents, caregivers, and schools—to ensure each child receives the support they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom. In addition to individual care, I also provide consultation for 504 Plans and PPT meetings. If I’m unable to attend a school meeting in person, I will gladly provide a letter of clinical support to advocate for your child’s needs and ensure their voice is represented. I specialize in working with college-age students, offering compassionate and evidence-based medication management for conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, stress, and trauma. For colleges located in Connecticut, I am available to come directly to campus—with prior approval from school leadership—if there are five or more students in need of services. My goal is to make mental health care accessible, personalized, and supportive of students’ academic and emotional success. I work with adults navigating major life changes, stress, or emotional overwhelm—whether it’s related to family, work, health, or personal growth. Through personalized medication management and supportive care, I help you regain balance and stability while honoring your life experience and unique journey. I believe in building long-term wellness through careful listening, evidence-based interventions, and a therapeutic relationship you can rely on.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The initial appointment is focused on intake—getting to know you, your history, and your goals for care. This first visit is not for prescribing, but rather to build a foundation of trust and understanding. At the second appointment, we typically review clinical impressions and discuss treatment options, which may include medication if appropriate. For patients who start medication, I schedule a follow-up within one to two weeks to monitor for efficacy and side effects. If stable, follow-up visits occur biweekly for two sessions, then transition to monthly. After three months, appointments are generally spaced every two to three months based on clinical stability. For patients prescribed controlled substances, such as stimulants or benzodiazepines, monthly appointments are required, along with a 12-panel drug screen. Benzodiazepines are not used as a standalone treatment for anxiety and are only prescribed short-term as adjunct therapy if first-line medications are ineffective. I provide holistic care by addressing all active diagnoses—services will not be provided if a patient wishes to treat one condition while disregarding others that may affect overall wellness.

We have been struggling with services for my 5 year old son. Heather has assisted in making me worry less, and has already provided more support than the in person provider we left.
