What should a new client know about working with you?

For 7 years, I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, helping mentally challenged clients. I developed tools to assist my clients with feeling cared about by a provider, sensing clear accountability from the health system regarding who is responsible for overseeing their care, who to contact when they need help, and feeling prepared and capable of caring for themselves.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The client’s first visit with me as a provider is critical because it has the potential to shape attitudes and behaviors that foster and strengthen my relationship with the client. The first few minutes of an initial patient-provider encounter are important for establishing trust and rapport. I will make sure such relationships are characterized by trust and rapport that would contribute to better care experiences, alleviate anxiety and distress, and enhance the client's involvement in decision-making about their care.
