Hello, I'm Helena! I'm a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), a health coach, and a mom, and I am always loved being active and eating healthy. I have been a dietitian for 10 years and a certified health coach for six years. As a dietitian, I have worked at two outpatient eating disorder programs and two children's hospitals. When getting my nutrition degree, the school I attended was completely vegetarian, so I also have a lot of experience with vegetarian nutrition. I currently live in the Tacoma, WA area with my husband and two sons. "My goal is to help my clients improve their nutrition and health in the most stress-free way possible, using scientifically-backed information. I believe that all foods can fit in a healthy eating plan, that nutrition can and should be individualized, that restrictive diets are detrimental in the long run, and that you can be healthy and enjoy a positive relationship with food regardless of your body size or shape.
I meet my clients where they are instead of coming in with a pre-packaged plan based solely on their medical condition. Setting goals with clients is done together in partnership, designed to gradually move them to where they want to be in a realistic, sustainable way."During your first session with me, I will ask a lot of questions in order to get a really thorough background history. (I am a note-taker, so I will do that too.) That is because I want to ensure that I have a complete picture of your nutrition and your health!
Once that part is covered, we will talk about the reason you are seeing a dietitian and what you hope to accomplish. By the end of session, we will have worked together to come up with goals that feel both meaningful and attainable. I really enjoy meal planning, so if it's appropriate, I will try to make sure that you leave session with practical ideas for what to eat."

First of all, Helena helps me know what I don't know and then learn. Like, today I literally realized that I didn't know what makes a good healthy or unhealthy, and I asked her and she explained it so kindly and thoroughly. Working with Helena has changed the way I act because she's helped to change the way I think about things. For example, previously I only thought about exercise in terms of how it would help me lose weight or how many calories back it would give me. She suggested the revolutionary idea that exercise should be about what I enjoy, and I've since starting swimming and am looking into kickboxing, both of which I really enjoy. She's also helped me recognize my hunger and fullness cues for the first time ever
