About Dr. Helyn Alvarez
Helyn Alvarez, MD, FAAD is a board-certified Dermatologist. Dr. Alvarez completed her undergraduate studies at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. She earned her medical degree and internship training from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, and went on to complete her dermatology residency at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
During her residency, Dr. Alvarez was awarded the Medallion Award for ranking in the top 2% of providers at UAB, the highest award for exceptional patient care and patient satisfaction. She is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and completed a fellowship in dermatology clinical research, participating in clinical trials that supported bringing new, cutting-edge medical and aesthetics treatments to the market.
Prior to joining Westlake Dermatology in Austin, Dr. Alvarez practiced as a cosmetic dermatologist in Houston. Passionate about delivering natural-looking results, she is highly trained and experienced in aesthetic dermatology, specializing in advanced cosmetic procedures. Dr. Alvarez excels in injectables, fillers, neuromodulators like Botox, state-of-the-art laser treatments, skin tightening procedures, and non-invasive facial rejuvenation.

I came in with a rash all over my body and shared my concerns, and I want to mention that I was already feeling extremely frustrated and uncomfortable because of the symptoms. I was advised to take Allegra or Benadryl at night, but the appointment felt very rushed, and I was hoping to leave feeling reassured. Instead, I left feeling more upset and a bit hopeless. I do think there’s room for Dr. Alvarez to provide a little more support and bedside connection during visits. On a positive note, the office was very clean, and the front desk staff was very kind.

The doctor and staff are wonderful! They saw me at my appointed time. The place it's self very clean, neat and beautiful building. They were very professional and friendly, and the dr was thorough. The Dr. solved my issue right away. I was more than thrilled. I would definitely recommend it.

I had a fantastic experience at Westlake Dermatology! The building is lovely and easy to access, making the visit stress-free from the start. The entire staff was incredibly courteous, friendly, and helpful, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The check-in and check-out process was impressively efficient—no unnecessary wait times. Dr. Alvarez was excellent—thorough, professional, and personable. I felt well taken care of and confident in my treatment plan. I was so pleased with my visit that I recommended the office to a friend immediately afterward. Highly recommend!
