“I tried to get an appointment on here before and it was difficult. Admittedly it was a wkend which made it harder but the appt.was canceled twice. This time I first received a text early asking me to confirm my insurance info which I had the night before. + to call their ph. no . Had a sleepless night so I called later since I had until before the appt. When the appt. time came - I didn't get any message, email or call. Was depending on getting help- especially since I needed medication. My niece happened to work there so feeling desperate not to lose ANOTHER Appointment I called her + she thankfully was able to contact someone there. They got the dr to text me + make a New Appt. Of course not their fault. If I didn't get help it's likely I would have given up + been discouraged. I am glad it worked out + that I was spared having to go find another doctor. The one I was connected w/ was good. I would like to suggest though to the higher ups at Zocdoc that they get it together ”

Getting to know Hijazi McCoy

Hello, I’m Hijazi McCoy, a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to helping individuals and families feel understood, supported, and empowered in their mental health journey. While I recently became a nurse practitioner, I bring nearly a decade of hands-on experience in psychiatry, having worked as a psychiatric registered nurse across inpatient psychiatric units, medical and psychiatric settings specializing in eating disorders, and detox and recovery programs. This depth of experience allows me to approach care with both clinical insight and a grounded understanding of what patients truly go through. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Monmouth University, building on my strong foundation as a nurse trained with President’s Honors at Chamberlain University. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with children, adolescents, and adults navigating a wide range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and personality-related concerns. My approach is rooted in the belief that mental health care should feel personal, collaborative, and empowering, not rushed or one size fits all. I take time to understand each patient’s story, values, and goals so we can create a path forward that feels both realistic and meaningful. My mission is to help you not only manage symptoms, but truly feel more in control, more balanced, and more like yourself again.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting mental health care can feel intimidating, especially if you are unsure what to expect or worried about being judged. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable being open, heard, and respected from the very first visit. When you work with me, you can expect a calm, supportive, and collaborative environment where your voice matters. I do not believe in talking at patients or making decisions for them. I work with you. We will move at a pace that feels right, and I will make sure you understand your options so you can feel confident in your care. I also recognize that every person brings their own background, culture, and life experiences into treatment. I take that seriously, and I strive to provide care that feels aligned with who you are, not just your diagnosis. Whether you are seeking clarity, stability, or simply someone who truly listens, my priority is helping you feel safe and supported throughout the process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work together begins with a comprehensive initial evaluation where we take the time to fully understand what is bringing you in, not just your symptoms, but your history, lifestyle, stressors, and goals. This is a conversation, not an interrogation, and it is designed to help both of us get a clear picture of what you need. From there, we will build a personalized treatment plan together. Depending on your preferences and clinical needs, this may include medication management, therapeutic support, or a combination of both. I always explain the reasoning behind my recommendations so you feel informed and involved, not overwhelmed. Follow up visits are focused on tracking your progress, checking in on how you are feeling, and making thoughtful adjustments as needed. Mental health care is not static. It evolves as you do. My role is to guide you, support you, and adapt your care so it continues to meet you where you are. Throughout the process, you can expect consistency, transparency, and a genuine investment in your well being.

Jaz is the best doctor ever. she listened to every concern I have. I let her know that I am not going to change my medications and if so I was going to go to a different doctor. she looked at all my medications not just what I take for bipolar but she was interested in everything. I had all my stats for her as far as blood pressure oxygen weight level and she was very knowledgeable about everything. she wrote all my scripts the way that they're supposed to be written. when I told her I was not changing any of my medications she did not she prescribed me what I normally take and which my medication is on point. a lot of my depression per se is situational. she has wonderful bedside manner. she's direct so there's no misconfusions but I really like her and I'm going to continue to see her. thank you Dr McCoy you're the best doctor I think I've ever had. this is from your friend and patient, Tina W.

She was very nice, caring and very respectful of what I was explaining to her, and I like that she not only listens, but gives her input when necessary, and is considerate of my thoughts and feelings. I’m glad that I’ve found her and look forward to the new relationship. going forward.
