Getting to know Dr. Hilary Trytten

My name is Hilary Trytten, and I am a Licensed Psychologist (PsyD) based in Southern California, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I earned my PsyD in Forensic Psychology from Alliant International University. I specialize in working with adults experiencing stress, anxiety, and depression, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help my clients make progress and start feeling better. My approach to therapy varies based on each client's needs. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as both modalities help us build a shared understanding of your reality and allow us to work together to chart a path forward. I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for people navigating stressful life transitions as well as those seeking to overcome longer-term anxiety and/or depression. I help my clients examine their thought patterns and coping styles. Together, we develop skills and perspectives that allow you to feel better about yourself and cultivate a more positive outlook on life. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything. My communication style is calm, accommodating, personable, and infused with humor when appropriate. I knew as early as high school that I wanted to work in psychology. I became fascinated with understanding cause and effect and later with exploring what leads us to the decisions we make in life. I have always been empathetic and a good listener, and it brings me joy to see people grow and become the best versions of themselves. My approach to goal setting is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy.
