Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
10520 Barkley St, Ste 140, Overland Park, KS
Seeking help takes courage, and you deserve to feel heard, respected, and supported. My goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care in a welcoming, judgment-free environment. Together, we'll create a personalized treatment plan that may include medication, lifestyle strategies, and therapeutic support to help you feel better and achieve your goals. I specialize in caring for adolescents and adults (ages 13+) with ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and other mental health conditions. My approach is warm, collaborative, and holistic, focusing on the whole person and not just symptoms. I emphasize education, healthy lifestyle habits, and shared decision-making, using medication when appropriate while also supporting safe deprescribing when possible. As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 16 years of nursing experience at The University of Kansas Health System, I understand the close connection between physical and mental health. I earned my MSN from Walden University, my BSN from MidAmerica Nazarene University, and my Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration from Upper Iowa University. It is a privilege to partner with patients as they build resilience, improve their well-being, and move toward a healthier, more fulfilling life. Telehealth Appointments available for follow-up visits when clinically appropriate.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients can expect a warm, respectful, and collaborative approach to care. Hilder takes time to understand your concerns, personal history, treatment experiences, and goals so that recommendations are individualized rather than one-size-fits-all. She believes you should feel comfortable asking questions, sharing concerns, and participating actively in decisions about your treatment. Her approach considers both mental and physical health and may include medication management, lifestyle strategies, education, therapeutic support, and coordination with other healthcare professionals when appropriate. Medication is used thoughtfully, with attention to effectiveness, side effects, and long-term safety. When clinically appropriate, she also supports careful medication reduction or deprescribing. Initial appointments are comprehensive and may include detailed questions about symptoms, medical history, sleep, relationships, daily functioning, and previous treatment. Follow-up visits focus on monitoring progress, making adjustments, and ensuring that the treatment plan continues to fit your needs and goals.

More information on payments and coverage

Copays and self-pay fees are collected at the time of service. Self-pay clients may pay in full before the appointment or arrange an approved payment plan in advance. Insurance coverage and benefits vary by plan, and verification of benefits is not a guarantee of payment. Clients are responsible for any deductible, copay, coinsurance, or noncovered balance assigned by their insurance company. Controlled-substance prescriptions require additional clinical and regulatory review. This may include reviewing the prescription drug monitoring program, confirming the date of the last visit, evaluating refill history, checking for potential medication interactions or safety concerns, and documenting the prescribing decision. For controlled-substance refill requests submitted more than 30 days after the most recent appointment, a $20 administrative fee may be charged to cover the additional time and review required outside of a scheduled visit. Regular follow-up appointments help ensure that medications remain safe, appropriate, and effective. In some situations, an appointment may be required before a controlled-substance prescription can be renewed.
