Getting to know Dr. Hillel Glover
I have been a practicing psychiatrist for more than 50 years. I received my medical degree from the University of Miami Medical School, Miller School of Medicine. I did my residency in adult psychiatry at the Hillside Hospital in New York, and completed my child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship program at Columbia University - Psychiatric Institute. I received certification in psychoanalysis from New York Medical College, and completed a research fellowship in psychiatry at Downstate Medical Center. I am board certified in adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and certified in psychoanalysis. I am also published in the field of Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
I have treated children, adolescents, and adults in private practice, clinics, emergency rooms, and outpatient hospital facilities. I have also worked at inpatient facilities, outpatient addiction units, prisons, and outpatient VA medical centers, where my patients were combat veterans diagnosed with PTSD.
These experiences have given me a profound understanding of how symptoms of emotional distress are unique to each individual and manifest differently depending on one’s environment and set of circumstances. I treat people suffering from anxiety, depression, social phobia, mood swings, loneliness, despair, mistrust, explosive anger, self-hatred, panic, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, addictions, substance abuse, self-injurious behaviors, paranoia, and psychosis.
Patients have always appreciated my openness and willingness to try new modalities, and for the efforts I make to research and address their most difficult problems. I believe in finding unique approaches to each individual patient. I place great importance on knowing a person’s medical history and lifestyle, such as diet, exercise, sleep, activities, values and goals. I believe in using both pharmaceutical drugs and holistic approaches to healing.
