Getting to know Hurlere Ndjoussi

As a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years of experience in the health industry, I'm dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based, and individualized mental health care for children, adolescents, and adults. Through Supportive Minds Mental Health Services, I strive to create a safe, welcoming, and judgment-free environment where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered in their treatment. My approach considers the whole person—not just a diagnosis. I take time to understand each patient's symptoms, history, strengths, goals, and individual circumstances before developing a treatment plan. When appropriate, treatment may include medication management, supportive therapy techniques, behavioral strategies, referrals for psychotherapy, and coordination with other healthcare professionals. I believe medication is one tool among many and should be thoughtfully considered based on each patient's needs and preferences. My goal is to work collaboratively with patients and families to develop practical, sustainable treatment plans that support emotional well-being and improved quality of life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Mental health care works best when it is collaborative, respectful, and individualized. My style is warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental, and I take time to understand each person rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. During visits, I encourage open communication and invite you to be an active participant in your treatment. We may discuss your symptoms, life circumstances, strengths, challenges, and treatment goals. When appropriate, I incorporate supportive and solution-focused therapeutic techniques into medication management visits and provide practical strategies that can help you manage symptoms between appointments. I do not believe medication is always the first or only answer. Depending on your needs and preferences, treatment may include medication, therapy recommendations, lifestyle strategies, coping skills, or a combination of approaches. My goal is for you to leave each visit feeling heard, informed, and supported, with a clear understanding of your treatment plan and next steps.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and individualized. During the first appointment, I take time to understand your concerns, symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, current medications, daily functioning, and personal goals. When appropriate, I may use screening tools to better understand symptoms and support an accurate diagnosis. For follow-up visits, we review how you have been feeling, discuss any changes in symptoms, sleep, appetite, mood, anxiety, attention, or functioning, and evaluate how you are responding to treatment. If medication is part of your treatment plan, we discuss benefits, potential side effects, and options together before making adjustments. I believe medication is only one part of mental health care. When appropriate, I incorporate supportive, solution-focused, and evidence-based therapeutic techniques into appointments and may recommend or coordinate additional psychotherapy services. Most importantly, I want patients to feel heard, respected, and involved in their care. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where we can work together toward meaningful and sustainable improvement.
