I am a double board-certified general and addiction psychiatrist with extensive experience treating depression, anxiety, and dependency on opioids or stimulants-including buprenorphine (Suboxone) detoxification and maintenance. I earned my medical degree from Universitatea de Medicina si Farmacie Carol Davila Facultatea de Medicina. I completed my psychiatry residency at Columbia University, Saint Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, and my addiction psychiatry fellowship at Yale University. Additionally, I trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the NYU Psychoanalytic Institute. My strong belief is that good psychiatric treatment combines psychopharmacology when medication is needed with psychotherapy, thus treating both the brain and the mind. In my practice, I use cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and insight-oriented dynamic psychotherapy. Before entering private practice, I served as Medical Director of the Opioid Treatment Program at The Addiction Institute of NY and as Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University. My publications include a book chapter on combining medication with motivational interviewing, as well as journal articles on dysthymia (low-grade depression) and substance abuse treatment. I have also been part of a team teaching courses for physicians on prescribing buprenorphine (Suboxone) for opioid addiction.
