Getting to know Dr. Ioana Hall

Ioana Hall is a graduate of Seattle University, having earned a Doctorate Degree in Nursing Practice, specializing in Psychiatry. "I was born and raised in Romania, but have called the Seattle area home for the past 20+ years. I've worked a variety of different roles within the healthcare space including providing direct inpatient care at a local psychiatric hospital, where I ultimately completed my preceptorship. Many of my patients have found success from holistic medicine used in combination with individualized pharmaceutical treatments and alternative psychotherapy services. My goal is to effectively target symptoms associated with all psychiatric disorders, especially Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), which is frequently treatment resistant. My passion for psychiatric care stems from witnessing dear friends and family members struggle with different types of mental health disorders. Witnessing their challenges first-hand have helped me understand the need for new treatment options that combine cognitive and behavioral therapies. I'm determined to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health, and committed to advocating for my patients regardless of their background".

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m a “listen first” psychiatrist and pride myself on getting to know each client and their specific needs. My approach is rooted in empathy, evidence-based practices, and a deep commitment to understanding each patient’s unique story. My goal is to help my clients achieve sustained relief from their symptoms and enable them to lead a fulfilling and productive life. Additionally, my work experience is quite diverse and includes providing patient care at hospitals like Fairfax Behavioral Health, offering one-on-one psychiatry care as a practitioner at clinics like DiscoveryMD, as well as teaching the next generation of doctoral students as an Associate Professor at Seattle University. As a result of these diverse environments and experiences, I’m able to offer care that draws upon a unique perspective and deliver care that few providers can.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical appointment involves a comprehensive diagnostic process aimed at understanding the patient's mental health concerns. I typically conduct an initial assessment to gather information about the patient's medical history, symptoms, and overall well-being. This may include discussions about lifestyle, stressors, and any relevant family history. During the appointment, we often explore different aspects of the patient's mental health, including thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I may use standardized assessments or diagnostic tools to aid in the diagnostic process. I'm trained to diagnose and treat various mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, and more. While I primarily focus on medication management, I occasionally integrate talk therapy or counseling into my appointment. This allows patients to discuss their thoughts and feelings in a supportive and therapeutic environment. However, it's essential to note that not all appointments will engage in talk therapy, and the specific approach may vary from one appointment to another. Patients can expect a collaborative and open dialogue during their appointments, where they can actively participate in the decision-making process regarding their treatment plan. We may discuss medication options, potential side effects, and address any questions or concerns the patient may have. It's crucial for patients to communicate openly with me, and provide detailed information to facilitate an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment approach. Additionally, patients should inquire about the specific practices, including whether talk therapy is part of the treatment plan. I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment where healing and growth can flourish. My goal is to empower my patients to achieve mental well-being and lead fulfilling lives. If this sounds like something you’re seeking then I’d love to work with you.

Don’t see your insurance?

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $275 for 60 minutes
Ongoing session: $150 for 45 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

Understanding medical insurance coverage is essential for patients to navigate healthcare costs effectively. Here are some key points to help patients: Verification of Coverage: Before scheduling appointments or undergoing procedures, patients should verify their insurance coverage. This includes checking if the healthcare provider and services are within the network, as out-of-network services may result in higher out-of-pocket costs. Insurance Card Information: Patients should carry their insurance card and provide accurate and up-to-date information during each visit. This includes details such as policy numbers, group numbers, and any other relevant identifiers. Co-payments and Deductibles: Patients need to be aware of their co-payment responsibilities, which are fixed amounts due at each visit. Deductibles, on the other hand, are the amount patients must pay out of pocket before insurance coverage kicks in. It's important to understand these costs to budget accordingly. Authorization for Procedures: Some procedures or treatments may require pre-authorization from the insurance company. Patients should inquire about this process and ensure that necessary authorizations are obtained to avoid unexpected expenses. Out-of-Pocket Maximums: Patients should be aware of their out-of-pocket maximum, which is the most they have to pay for covered services in a plan year. Once this limit is reached, the insurance typically covers the remaining eligible expenses. In-Network vs. Out-of-Network Costs: Understanding the difference between in-network and out-of-network providers is crucial. In-network providers generally have negotiated rates with the insurance company, resulting in lower costs for the patient. Out-of-network providers may lead to higher out-of-pocket expenses. It's recommended to communicate openly with healthcare providers and insurance representatives to ensure a clear understanding of coverage and financial responsibilities.

Helpful, thorough, insightful - I feel hopeful about next steps
I loved meeting with Dr. Hall. Very genuine and lovely doctor!!!
First impressions were great. Hopeful for results.
She treated me so poorly because I had been prescribed clonazepam for horrible anxiety after my dad and nephew died and basically messaged me to find a different doctor after 3 appointments because I requested a refill of the clonazepam (on time) and that in 4 weeks I couldn’t just be off them. She was extremely rude and uncaring and felt extremely judgmental. I would never recommend someone so cold to anyone else.

This office did not honor the appointment made on ZocDoc. After I explained in voicemail that phone call was not an effective form of communication to reach me, the doctors staff continued to call me to tell me the appt I made on ZocDoc wouldn’t be honored. When I was finally able to schedule a different appointment time online using the doctors website, two weeks later I received an email saying they were unable to accept new patients and they removed my appointment from my patient portal. I have no idea if this doctor is effective, she may be, but the organization and communication of the office is pretty unprofessional as far as I can tell, and not very sensitive to the communication needs of their patients. I don’t think a doctor should make themselves available for scheduling on ZocDoc if they aren’t going to honor the appointment. The primary reason I use this service is because appointments give me anxiety and this service is supposed to alleviate that stress.

Dr. Hall was one of the best providers I have ever met! Truly, her empathy and bedside manner made the medication management appt a pleasurable one! She felt for me and my position, she talked with me a bit about what was going on in my life, and we trusted each other right off the bat. She is a great judge of character, and was very warm, despite the crazy time I am going thru in my life, I was smiling and laughing for most the appt lol. To sum it up: I felt seen, I got what I needed, I highly recommend her!

Dr. Hall is a great. She is a great listener & really positive person. We talked about a good plan regarding my medications & possible changes to them. She evaluated me & may change one thing that I’ve been diagnosed with once in the past. I felt trust for her in our first session. We shared information regarding different psychotherapy which was nice. I’m so glad my counselor recommended her to me. I feel we will have a great relationship & I’m thankful to have her.

Dr Hall is without a doubt the best psychiatric provider I have ever seen and I have seen *plenty*. Attentive, empathetic, enthusiastic, insightful and intuitive. It is so clear that this is someone who just really loves their job and wants to help. Surprisingly rare in modern medicine! mul?umesc ?

She provides friendly, understanding and empathetic care! I felt very comfortable during my visit, and had all of my questions answered and more.

She is so sweet and very understanding. I’m used to psychiatrists who don’t really care much about how you’re feeling and throw meds at you to shut you up. She is definitely an amazing change. Very much recommend her!

Just had my first appointment with Dr. Ioana Hall, and I can confidently say I’ve never had a better appointment with a medical professional. Ioana was so engaging and really listened to what I was saying which I haven’t always gotten from other providers. She asked a lot of good questions to really get down to the root cause of the health concerns I brought up and gave me options on how we could tackle those and we created a plan together. 10/10 would recommend!

Dr. Hall is brilliant. I was really nervous about my first appointment but she is so great about creating a safe and open space to talk. She very obviously cares about her patients and is so knowledgeable. I highly recommend her.

Exceeded all expectations I had for a psychiatric provider. Typically I expect the bare minimum interaction needed to write a Rx, but Ioana went far beyond. I left the appointment feeling validated and acknowledged. I did not used to look forward to psychiatric appointments, and that has changed. I am excited for my future treatment with this provider!

I can't say enough about how wonderful Dr. Hall is! Her care and compassion is top-shelf care and I am beyond grateful that I found her. She listens to my concerns, she makes a path forward to help me find a way to improve my mental health and she always puts me first. I wish I had found her years ago, but I am grateful I have found her now. I feel extremely lucky and if anyone is looking for amazing care, look no further, because you have found it in Dr. Hall. Thank you so much for treating me like a person and for truly caring about my well-being.
