Irene I. Esene holds an MSN, APRN-CNP, PMHNP-BC, and a BA in accounting. She is a board-certified psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner licensed in Texas, New York, and New Mexico. Irene earned her associate degree in nursing from Lamar State College Port-Arthur, Texas, in 2013. She later obtained her Master’s in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Walden University in 2022. She has experience working in behavioral health, long-term skilled nursing, and psychiatric health settings.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Being able to listen to and work collaboratively with patients and help to transition them from a state of mental illness or breakdown to a homeostatic state is the ultimate satisfaction.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I endeavor to uphold the high standards here at Mind, Behavior, and Psychiatric Clinic by deliberately and systematically welcoming my new and existing patients to our sessions, listening to them, and asking the right questions to help elicit the information needed to assist them on their journeys from sickness to a clearer mind, more purposeful behavior, and psychiatric free mind and body.

Made an appointment via video chat and the provider never showed up. Waited over 30 minutes in the "waiting room." Contacted ZocDoc support after calling the phone number provided and was told to not wait any longer. A complete waste of time.

This was my intake session so there’s still much to be seen but I am feeling positive after my session with NP Irene. She is clearly well versed in what she does, she asked all the right questions and she listened to my hesitations as well as my desires. While I didn’t end up getting prescribed a particular medication I was interested in trying out, she seems genuinely invested in creating a treatment plan that we’re both comfortable with and that will be effective in getting me better. I’m looking forward to my next session with her and hope to be able to update with positive progress. I appreciate that her schedule was flexible enough to accommodate me being seen the day after I booked, and she called me ahead of time to let me know that there might be an issue with my insurance and I might have to expect to pay the out of pocket expense, which is clearly listed in her profile. All in all, I recommend.

I was not seen by Irene, it was a completely different doctor that joined the video call and said "Irene is not available today, is it okay if you do the appointment with me instead?". This doctor (I can't remember his name) did not seem very knowledgeable on ADHD. He just seemed to agree with what I said and did not give me any new information. I did not feel comfortable chatting with him further as I was surprised that it was not the doctor that I had booked the appointment with.
