About Jacqueline MacGibbon
Professional Background
I attended the University of Delaware, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics. I completed my dietetic internship at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital outside Chicago. During my internship, HIV was a newer condition, and I gained experience helping patients maintain adequate nutrition during illness. I also conducted nutrition research on weight loss in AIDS patients and the incidence of opportunistic infections.
After my internship, I worked as a clinical dietitian for several years. Upon having my children, I chose to stay home, raising my three now-adult children. During that time, I focused my continuing education on child and adolescent weight management. In 2010, I began my own practice called CANE—Child and Adolescent Nutrition Education—with the goal of helping families implement healthy eating habits to prevent childhood obesity.
Eventually, I began seeing adult patients as well, driven by a passion for heart disease prevention. A personal reason fueled this interest: my father passed away at 53 from a heart attack. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in this country, with several risk factors—some avoidable. If we can help young people develop good eating habits early, hopefully, we can decrease heart disease rates.
After completing a health coaching program, I began working as an outpatient dietitian. This role gave me more opportunity to coach patients and help them work toward nutrition goals. I also counseled individuals with conditions including diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and gastrointestinal disorders.
My Philosophy
When we eat well, we feel well. I am passionate about starting early with healthy nutrition behaviors. Through health coaching, I work with individuals—adults and children alike—to make small, sustainable changes that lead to their goals. I am dedicated to promoting a positive relationship with food among young people.
