Provider did not explain any procedures that they were conducting - their behavior was inappropriate. When conducting invasive and intimate procedures and exams, it's important to explain what you are doing - rectal exam was unexplained, rushed and painful, and when these concerns were brought up, provider dismissed these and referred me out. To not explain or preface that you're doing this exam and to do it without verbal acknowledgement of the patient or consent is violating and not okay. Spoke with the nurse who was incredibly kind and left in-office feedback. Provider also noted that they are not a Gastroenterologist as noted on ZocDoc.

I have never been turned away for preventative care before- I have high risk factors for cancer and need to be screened more frequently. Even after I explained my risk, she argued with me and told me that I must be mistaken in my family’s medical history. I explained my mom had massive medical intervention when she had cancer and I was told there’s actually no way that’s true because that’s not how that cancer is treated. I left frustrated, confused, dismissed, and not listened to. I suspect perhaps my insurance wouldn’t cover an exam at this time, but why wouldn’t she just say that, and give me the option to self pay? Instead of arguing and making me feel like I don’t know my family medical history? It was a very weird experience overall and I would not recommend this to any woman looking for preventative care.
