What should a new client know about working with you?

I have been a couples therapist for the past 5 years, helping clients improve the communication, intimacy, and trust in their relationships. I also have individual adult clients and have worked extensively with first responders and survivors of trauma. Being trained as a relational therapist, I tend to conceptualize client's cases from a family systems perspective. That being said, I strive to provide therapy from a person-centered approach. I may be an "expert" at psychological techniques and theories, but the client is the expert on their life. Together we embark on a journey to discover the root causes of the current distress. ¡Tambien hablo español!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Coming from a background in law enforcement, I tend to use police metaphors to help illustrate important points. I advise clients we are going on an "investigation" together to "crack the case". I stress, however, that I am not the "lead detective" and "deputize" clients, empowering them on the most important investigation of their life!
