About Dr. James Austin Cox

Important Information: *FULL BODY EXAMS CANNOT BE SCHEDULED ONLINE. *We do not accept self-pay patients or any form of Medicaid. *Due to Dr. Cox’s military position, he is unable to see patients with any form of Tricare Dr. Austin Cox is a board-certified dermatologist with expertise in both pediatric and medical dermatology. He was born and raised in Oklahoma City, where he graduated from Classen School of Advanced Studies with an International Baccalaureate degree. Dr. Cox then attended Sewanee: The University of the South, where he was awarded the prestigious Wilkins Scholarship and graduated with honors in Philosophy. Dr. Cox went on to attend the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, for medical school, where he also became an Army Officer. After completing his Pediatrics residency in Hawaii, Dr. Cox was deployed to Afghanistan, where he gained valuable experience in the military setting. Upon returning to the United States, he completed his second residency in Dermatology at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. Dr. Cox currently serves as the Department Chief of Dermatology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he continues to provide high-level care to military personnel and their families. He enjoys all aspects of dermatology, with a particular interest in dermatologic surgery and aesthetic treatments. Dr. Cox is committed to providing safe, high-quality dermatologic care for both children and adults, helping patients achieve and maintain healthy skin. Dr. Cox looks forward to providing you and your loved ones with compassionate, expert dermatologic care.
