About Dr. James Chang

James Chang, MD, is an interventional pain management physician at Alliance Orthopedics in Matawan, New Jersey. He is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation as well as pain medicine. Dr. Chang attended Yale University from 1997-2001, where he received his Bachelor of Science in molecular biophysics and biochemistry. He then studied at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School from 2001-2006, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine. In 2007, he completed his residency in preliminary internal medicine at Drexel University’s Saint Peter’s University Hospital. He then completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at New York University Medical Center from 2007-2010. Dr. Chang completed his training during his fellowship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey from 2010-2011, where he gained valuable experience in musculoskeletal medicine and interventional pain management. Before joining the NJ Spine and Wellness team, Dr. Chang began his career as the medical director at Monmouth Pain & Rehabilitation Center in 2011. In 2014, he opened his own practice, JKC Pain Mgt LLC, where he still sees patients today. He is licensed to practice in New Jersey. Dr. Chang is a member of the New Jersey Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He is a diplomate of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as the American Academy of Pain Medicine.

I have suffered with back pain for years an MRI showed aside from a serious stenosis condition numerous disc bulges and heavy calcification deposits due to aging. The spinal specialist recommended I see a pain management specialist. Well, my prayers were answered when I found Dr. Chang and his wonderful support team of nurses and therapists in Freehold. Dr. Chang has performed a Radiofrequency Ablation on my back that brought immediate pain relief and additionally enabled my legs to walk more freely. Additionally, I have a very painful knee condition and due to other medical conditions, I cannot get it replaced. He has drained my knee and given me knee injections which give me relief to close to a year. Dr. Chang listens attentively to your problems, is a very caring and skillful surgeon with a terrific staff of medical technicians and therapist who are always so upbeat and professional. For me the whole experience has been nothing short of a blessing from above allowing me to live a relatively pain free life as a senior citizen.
Dr.Chang and his team are just amazing. They have truly been there for me with anything that I needed. If you are in pain or just need someone to look at sprain call them. They are the best team you will ever meet.

Listens and has my best interest at heart
Dr. Chang has been treating me for the past 3 months and I could not be anymore happier. When I first saw him I had restricted range of motion and now I can move with no pain. He always listens to my needs and questions. Laura his assistant always remembers me and makes me feel at ease. I highly recommend both of them!
Dr. Chang is very professional and knowledgeable about pain. However, on the first visit I expected more of a physical exam and options other than interventional epidural. Also, surgical site is in Jersey City location. Free transportation is provided to and from.

Dr. Change was professional and courteous, and I can't recommend him enough. I came in to see him after injuring my back in embarrassing way. I first saw Dr. Chang for treatment of chronic lower back pain and then returned after injuring my shoulder.
