Getting to know Dr. James Ellis

At Ellis Psychology, I, along with my psychology assistants Dr. Kim Nguyen, Dr. Megan Glapp, and Dr. Lauren Zomick, as well as Michael Koch, LMSW, Matthew Egan, LMSW, and David Hammerschlag, LMSW, bring decades of experience working with individuals and couples on a wide variety of life challenges. We treat anxiety, grief, depression, bipolar disorder, addiction, trauma, and identity issues. Our approach is active and supportive, helping clients recognize their own strengths and feel more optimistic about their future. We work to help people develop greater trust in themselves and, in doing so, achieve greater self-confidence. More than anything, relationships enrich our lives with meaning. Maintaining loving and connected relationships can also be one of life's biggest challenges. We help couples reconnect from destructive patterns of arguing, emotional distance, and diminished trust. Using a proven method of couples therapy, we guide couples to get back on track and grow their relationships deeper, richer, and more fulfilling. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University and completed a fellowship at Columbia University, Mount Sinai West. Additionally, I trained in couples and family therapy at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, which informs my approach to helping couples build stronger, healthier connections.
