I first saw James Hoff where he fitted me for a pair of contact lenses thirty years ago. I was a tough patient because I was sensitive to even half a di-opter of wrong correction. He was the only optometrist who hung in with me until I got the right lenses.
I lost touch with Doctor Hoff, because I had Lasik surgery and didn't need corrective lenses any more. (He directed me to the best doctor for that BTW) I recently needed reading glasses and found Dr. Hoff had opened his own practice on Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice and was very happy I did. As always he was incredibly thorough and caring with my examination and it was also great to see him again.
You will not find a more kind, competent or caring doctor than James Hoff for your vision care needs.

We have a 24 hr cancellation policy and a $35 cancellation fee. Dr. Hoff has worked in high profile practices throughout his career. Most recently he worked with an internationally known surgeon in a Beverly Hills LASIK center. The highly technical nature of the practice provided a platform for him to hone his clinical skills to their current level.
Dr. Hoff has lived in the beach community for almost 20 years and has watched, with interest, the evolution of Abbot Kinney as a retail and restaurant destination for many years. Recognizing the opportunity for his services on the street the time seemed perfect to combine his clinical interests and style acumen into one destination; Hoff Optometry & Eyewear.

It was always a pleasure to visit Dr. Hoff and I would highly recommend his services. He has a wonderful assistant in Marilen too. I will have a hard time finding such a great optometrist now that I have moved to Washington DC.

Very thorough examination. Dr. Hoff is efficient and professional without giving you the feeling that you are being rushed. I can't directly compare prices because I do not know about other places. But the price seemed reasonable to me. Also, if you are buying glasses at Hoff Optometry--these are very tasteful, European styles--you are going to be dropping some cash, anyway. You will be making an investment in vision and style. Obviously, you want the eye exam part of it right.

Justin and I have been going to Hoff for a few years now. He is the best optometrist ever! Nobody can compare to him and his lovely assistant Marilyn. She is very helpful at choosing the right glasses for you. They are both very helpful and great at what they do. We visited another optometry office to see their eyeglass options and we did not receive the same customer service that Hoff provides us with. We love Hoff!

Doc saw me right on time. Nice manners and has the latest equipment. Staff was super helpful & patient assisting me pick out glasses (it was my first pair). Even with insurance discount everything was pricey though I guess that's to be expected when choosing an optometrist on Abbot Kinney.

Dr. Hoff was phenomenal! He was so personable and took the time to talk with me about what I need instead of just pushing me through like doctors have in the past. He also explained everything to me so I knew exactly what was going on with my vision! It was super interesting to go over the scans with him and I appreciate him letting me know what I was looking at!

It was awful. Doctor was rude and uncaring. His office was dirty and super small. The bathroom was nasty. And his dog was running everywhere in the office and it jumped on me during eye exam!?! When it became allowed to have dog in the doctor's office??
