About Dr. James Liou
James S. Liou, MD, PhD, joined APDerm® in August 2020. After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard University, he earned combined MD and PhD degrees from the Boston University School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed a medical internship at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington, MA, and subsequently completed his residency in Dermatology at the University of North Carolina. After his education and post-graduate training, Dr. Liou practiced as a dermatologist at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and Needham. During this time, he also served as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School, teaching residents and medical students. For the decade prior to joining APDerm, Dr. Liou was a senior physician at Kaiser Permanente in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Dr. Liou is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology. He enjoys seeing patients of all ages and is interested in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. His interests include the prevention, detection, and treatment of skin cancers, as well as the treatment of acne, psoriasis, and eczema. Dr. Liou strongly believes that his patients’ mental and emotional well-being is equally important to the physical health and appearance of their skin. He looks forward to collaborating with his patients to address their dermatology needs.
During his free time, Dr. Liou enjoys cooking and traveling with his family.
