About Dr. James Yi Gao

James Gao, MD, FAAD is a board-certified dermatologist at Advanced Dermatology of Arizona. Dr. Gao grew up in in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his undergraduate degree at Cornell University and attended medical school at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. During medical school, he completed a clinical research fellowship on skin cancer in immunosuppressed patients and health disparities at the University of California, San Francisco. After earning his Doctorate of Medicine, he completed a one-year preliminary medicine internship at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix (formerly Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center). Dr. Gao went on to complete a three-year dermatology residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. During his residency, he developed an interest in addressing skin diseases in skin of color and underserved patients. He has written several published journal articles. After graduating from dermatology residency, Dr. Gao returned to the Valley to start his dermatology practice. His clinical interests include medical dermatology, dermatologic surgery, and cosmetic dermatology. He is committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate care for all patients of all ages and backgrounds. Dr. Gao has several hobbies outside of dermatology, some of which include weightlifting, singing, hiking, traveling, listening to audiobooks, and attending music festivals.
