What should a new client know about working with you?

When you choose me as your provider, you’re getting more than just someone to write prescriptions—you’re getting a partner who’s all-in on helping you succeed. I believe in teamwork when it comes to your health, so we’ll build a treatment plan that fits you. For your first appointment, I block off 60 minutes —no rush, no pressure. For follow-ups, we’ll have 30 minutes to focus on your progress, make adjustments, and keep everything on track. My goal is that you walk away feeling confident, heard, and mental health journey I also make sure you’re informed every step of the way. If we start a new medication or treatment, I’ll break it down for you—what it does, why it’s right for you, and what to expect. I want you to feel completely in the loop and involved in your care. Communication is huge to me, and I want to make sure you always feel supported. My goal is for you to leave each visit feeling confident, heard, and optimistic about the progress you're making in your mental health journey. We provide compassionate, high-quality telepsychiatry care for adults (ages 18-64) across North Carolina. To ensure we're the right fit for your care needs, please note the following before booking: We DO NOT treat complex psychiatric conditions such as Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, or other severe mental health disorders, which often require in-person, specialized care. Our provider DOES NOT prescribe medications such as Suboxone/Buprenorphine-Naloxone, Depakote, Paliperidone/Trevicta, Lithium, or similar treatments. If you have had more than four providers prescribe controlled substances. INSURANCE TIP: Please make sure you have selected the correct insurance plan when booking. This helps avoid delays, cancellations, or any associated fees.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Jason uses a patient-centered approach to mental health care. He believes the input from patients is crucial to designing an effective and individualized treatment plan. The first session will usually last longer as it is essential to review current and past struggles. It is also equally important to assess for any family history of illnesses and explore all other possible factors. The first visit usually takes 30-60 minutes to obtain the collaborative information needed and this gives you the time to feel heard and look at all possible options to design your specific and individualized treatment plan. After the initial visit, follow-up visits usually average around 15-30 minutes as the assessment would be more tailored to your specific needs and progress.

He listens and he doesn’t tell you what you need to do or what you should do or what they would do. This is hard to find.

I just had my first session with Dr. Darden, and I cannot recommend him enough! He was incredibly kind and made me feel comfortable and heard. It is hard to find compassionate doctors that you can trust. He listened to my concerns and validated what I had been going through for years. It felt like I was talking to a good friend! I am excited to continue working with him for hopefully years to come. Thank you, Dr. Darden!

Jason is very proactive with regards to he care and support he provides. He does a great job asking the right questions, which help me best describe how I’m feeling.
Dr. Jason Darden is an exceptional psychiatrist who genuinely cares about his patients’ well-being. He takes the time to listen, provides thoughtful guidance, and ensures that treatment plans are tailored to individual needs. His compassionate approach and deep understanding of mental health make a significant difference in the lives of those he treats. The appointments run smoothly, creating an stress-free experience. I highly recommend Dr. Darden to anyone seeking professional and empathetic mental health care.
Jason is kind, understanding and not judgmental at all, he is open to listen and talk through medication options with me while figuring out which medication is going to be best for me. I transitioned from another telepsych provider on ZocDoc who did not accept my new insurance at the start of the year and had concerns about the potential impact that this might have on the timeline of being able to refill my medications, but it was no problem at all. I was also very happy with how well we communicated and how comfortable our first appointment was. Strongly recommend Jason for anyone dealing with ADHD, anxiety and/or depression. Great medical professional, willing to work with patients to get to a healthy and manageable medication regimen.

Dr. Darden is all about the well being of his patients. He listened to the things that prior doctors had told me that honestly caused more harm than good and he told me that he could see the anguish and sincere desperation to find some help. He told me he was proud of me for not giving up and for fighting for myself and then he took the information I gave him and came up with a plan WITH me, not for me. I will definitely be back to see him and to allow him to help me with my ptsd, anxiety, and depression issues because he took the time to build that trust with me. THANK YOU, Dr. Darden, from the bottom of my anxiety riddled heart for your compassion and support!!

Great listener. Knowledgeable. Made sure we were aligned on my care plan and listened to my concerns. Felt comfortable speaking with him.

Best experience I’ve had with a psychiatrist so far! A very good balance of taking my chronic illness seriously and handling my medication regimen with care. Most doctors in the past have been very dismissive but I feel I can trust him to work with me to make my life and symptoms more manageable.

My experience was great, but and I do have a but, I specifically searched providers who treat ADHD and I ended up with treatment for anxiety which was not my primary concern. Iy caused a lot of anxiety because I know I have to suffer through this until I find a provider who can treat ADD. Zoc doc recommended this provider specifically for ADHD, but that was not acknowledged at all.

Mr. Darden was my first experience meeting with someone about my mental health. It was an absolutely amazing experience. He was compassionate and understanding and gave me the opportunity to explore care options with him instead of shoving his recommendations down my throat. I would absolutely recommend him and am looking forward to my follow up appointment with him in 1 month.
