Javonne was born and raised in Cleveland. She is a CMSD graduate who went on to nursing school at Hiram College, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree. She graduated from Hiram in 2011 and started working as a nurse. After finishing undergrad, she worked in the ICU, then moved to Nicaragua to volunteer in the maternal child health program in the Peace Corps. She came back to the U.S. and started working as an L&D nurse while attending graduate school for midwifery. Javonne earned her Master’s in Nurse-Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University in 2018. Since 2019, she has worked as a Certified Nurse Midwife in the hospitals of Cleveland. Multiple years of practice in busy labor and delivery units caring for women with pregnancies of varying levels of risk were valuable preparation for community-based birth. The low-risk births were a joy to attend, but working with a team to care for women with high-risk pregnancies helped build the skills and confidence she needed to quickly and accurately assess and determine deviation from normal/low-risk. After 2.5 years of practice, she decided to focus her efforts on the needs of her community and open a practice designed to support women through midwifery services. For Javonne, community education and engagement has always been a main area of focus. She maintains certifications in BLS and NRP and participates in continuing education programs regularly. Javonne is the wife of Kinga and the mother of two children, Emery (3) and Amaris (1), and one dog, Margo (2).
