About Dr. Jay Cherner
Having been a board-certified gastroenterologist for thirty-seven years, there are few clinical challenges that Dr. Cherner has not navigated. Genuinely privileged to earn his patients confidence, he is, above all, a patient advocate, committed to the principle of doing or advising whatever is best for his patients, never losing sight of their needs and life circumstances.
A graduate of Rutgers–New Jersey Medical School (M.D.), and Wesleyan University (B.A), Dr. Cherner completed his Internal Medicine residency at New York’s Montefiore Medical Center of Albert Einstein School of Medicine. In 1981 the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program at the Emory University School of Medicine lured this Yankee (fan) to metro Atlanta, which would become his home for most of the next 39 years. After Emory, Dr. Cherner performed a second two-year Fellowhip in Gastroenterology Research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. While there, Dr. Cherner authored the first U.S. studies reporting the effectiveness of omeprazole (Prilosec), famotidine (Pepcid), and Sandostatin. In 1985 he became Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of California at Irvine, where he was honored with the University’s Young Scholar Award. Dr. Cherner’s research has been published in the most prestigious medical journals. Nonetheless, because he missed the direct patient contact of everyday clinical medicine, he returned to Metro Atlanta to establish his solo practice, North Atlanta Gastroenterology, PC in July 1992, with offices in Cumming and Roswell. After 18 years of doing it all himself, in 2011 he joined colleagues to form Gastroenterology Consultants, P.C., now in its ninth year. He is on active staff of Wellstar North Fulton Hospital, where he previously served as Vice-Chairma

Very efficient assistant, Anthony. No wait at all to see Dr Cherner. Office very clean and orderly. Dr Cherner spent two hours with me going over my medical history and concerns. Extremely knowledgeable and conservative in his approach to treatment. Wants as much information as possible before making recommendations. Felt very secure about his care and judgment.

Dr. Cherner is great. He is not a five minute dr jumping from one room to the next. He will spend the time needed and listen then go out of the way to put 2 and 2 together.
Staff is the same way, I had a 20 minute call with staff to go over why I need to see the dr and they are also very knowledgeable.
I highly recommend dr. Cherner and with him and his staff the best!
