MD
Hello! My name is Dr. Fields and I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I obtained my doctorate in nursing practice from the University of Pittsburgh & studied behavioral health/psychiatry at the University of Virginia. I have been practicing as a nurse practitioner for 7 years and look forward to partnering with you to achieve your highest functioning. I use my experience and clinical skills, along with evidence-based knowledge to provide the best and safest care to you. I specialize in diagnosing, preventing, and treating mental health conditions that affect your day to day function, and that involve matters related to mood, fears, behaviors, thoughts, perceptions, concentration, focus, appetite, and sleep. Whether you have seen behavioral health specialists or providers before, or this is your first time seeking care, I strive to make you feel comfortable and heard. I will help give insight to the "why" behind what you are thinking, feeling, and experiencing, and I will give you the "what" we can do about it to help you find relief, peace, focus, and "your best self again".

What should a new client know about working with you?

During our first session, we will discuss your story-- your needs, desires, fears, and concerns. We will begin exploring your symptoms so we can discuss treatment options and start exploring solutions to your problems, and to gain insight and answers that explain what you are feeling. You will have a comprehensive assessment to carefully explore your symptoms and to clarify your behavior-health condition. You can expect to be listened to and valued as I take great pride in partnering with you to help you find answers, achieve your goals, and aim for higher functioning. I am a great and non-judgmental listener. You have walked in your shoes and lived your life up to this point, and I want to learn how you are doing and share how I can help. I pride myself in providing psychoeducation in all of my sessions so that you can understand my suggestions and recommendations and be equipped to feel better. Knowledge is power and can help us make life-changing choices. I love sharing my knowledge and expertise with you, as you are the expert of your story, body, and situation, and together we can tackle your illness and concerns. I strive to create a comfortable environment where you feel safe to share your honest thoughts and truths. I am here as a trusted partner that you can confide in. I offer my expertise to help you understand and change your challenging thoughts and behaviors, to help you grow and get back to your best self. I use supportive therapy to connect with patients and cultivate conversation/discussion aimed at reducing symptoms such as anxiety and uncertainty. I incorporate psychoeducation to give clarity to symptoms, diagnoses, and questions, and to strengthen coping mechanisms, support self-esteem, improve day to day functioning, and promote higher functioning.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

While everyone is unique, and has different goals, I have found that most patients start feeling better after our very first session. Having a clear understanding of my intentions and thoughts, and their options, recommendations, and treatment plan, provides reassurance; and knowing next steps and what to expect, cultivates confidence and trust. My goal is to discuss and correct the chemical imbalances that are affecting thoughts and behaviors, and to ensure that you are equipped with knowledge and resources to be and function at your best.
