Getting to know Dr. Jeanmarie Anderer

Dr. Anderer is a highly trained and experienced psychiatrist and psychotherapist. She has been in clinical practice for over thirty years.
She attended the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, where she received her medical degree. She completed her residency in psychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center. Dr. Anderer obtained graduate training at the Institute of Psychoanalytic Education in New York (now the Psychoanalytic Association of New York) and is a faculty member there. She is also a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association and the International Psychoanalytic Association.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Whether problems are long standing or sudden, depression, anxiety or your personality structure can interfere with the ability to enjoy your life, your work, and your relationships.
As both a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst with specialized training in analytic and dynamic talk therapy I believe treatment works best when it allows for a deeper understanding of yourself.
I work with my patients to gain an understanding of how the past and present intertwine but at the same time I help you problem solve to improve your life in the here and now.
As a psychiatrist I understand that medication may at times be indicated to relieve troubling symptoms that require a more immediate intervention.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
After you book your appointment with me on ZocDoc I will need to speak with you by phone and go over a few things, ie. the fee, length of our initial appointment and how payment is made.
This call will be brief but I will need to speak to you within a few hours of the time of booking so please expect my call.

Not necessarily rude but sort of dismissive and talked over me sometimes. I ended up feeling worse about myself after just the one appointment, but it was mostly likely because she simply wasn’t a good fit for me. Mixed feelings.

This is first time I paid out of pocket for any doctor. Her consultation fee was high but most psychiatric appointments are anyway. Although Dr. Answer and I had a miscommunication regarding where to send my script to and she came off a little rude and short tempered on the phone, she was still an excellent psychiatrist who diagnosed me spot on with only one consult. In fact, she picked up on things I never even noticed nor my previous psychiatrist noticed. With that said, I would definitely recommend her to anyone else.

Dr. Anderer is an excellent psychiatrist --empathic, very focused on what you're saying, and very insightful with her interpretations. Can't recommend her highly enough.

Dr. Anderer really helped me through a tough depression I was dealing with. She is very compassionate and was available between appointments when I was going through a serious crisis. I'd highly recommend her.
