Getting to know Jennifer Eastman

Hello, I'm Jennifer Eastman, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of experience in healthcare. I'm passionate about providing compassionate, evidence-based care that addresses both your mental health and overall wellness needs. My journey in healthcare began as a pediatric nurse at Loma Linda University Medical Center, where I developed a deep appreciation for patient-centered care. I've since expanded my expertise through advanced training in both family medicine and psychiatric care, allowing me to offer comprehensive treatment for patients across the lifespan. Currently, I provide outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management for adults and adolescents with diverse behavioral health conditions, including ADHD, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, and personality disorders. I believe in integrating both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, working closely with your existing healthcare team to ensure coordinated care. What sets me apart is my unique background in clinical research, having served as a Sub-Investigator in numerous FDA-regulated trials. This experience keeps me current with the latest evidence-based treatments, ensuring I can offer you the most advanced therapeutic options available. I'm committed to trauma-informed and culturally competent care, creating a safe space where you feel heard and respected. My approach emphasizes psychological safety, patient engagement, and collaborative treatment planning tailored to your individual needs and goals. My goal is to support your journey toward mental health stabilization and functional improvement, helping you achieve lasting wellness and a better quality of life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I specialize in psychiatric medication management with a strong emphasis on treatment plans tailored to your individual needs. My approach begins with genuine listening — not just cataloging your symptoms, but understanding how they're affecting your daily functioning, relationships, work, and overall quality of life. Your first visit is comprehensive by design. We'll explore your mental health background, current challenges, prior treatment experiences, relevant medical conditions, and what you're hoping to accomplish. I take the time to be thorough because the clearer my understanding of your full picture, the better equipped I am to help you. My clinical experience spans complex and straightforward histories alike, and I bring both confidence and compassion to every evaluation. Everything I recommend is rooted in current research and clinical best practices. When we talk about medications, I keep the conversation clear and accessible — no unnecessary jargon. You'll come away understanding how a medication works, why it's a strong fit for your specific situation, what kind of improvement to anticipate and over what timeframe, and what side effects to watch for. I welcome your questions at every step, because informed decision-making isn't just encouraged here — it's central to how effective treatment works. I start medications at appropriate doses, monitor your progress consistently, and refine the plan based on clinical findings and your direct feedback. I'm deliberate about avoiding combinations of multiple medications unless the clinical rationale is clear, and I always consider practical factors — cost, insurance, and whether a dosing schedule realistically fits your life. Between appointments, please reach out if side effects develop or your symptoms shift — I'd far rather hear from you promptly than have you manage uncertainty alone until your next visit. I also coordinate with your other providers when it supports your overall care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Starting psychiatric treatment can feel overwhelming, and I strive to make the process as comfortable as possible. During our first meeting—typically 60 minutes—we'll have an in-depth discussion about what you're experiencing. I'll explore your symptoms thoroughly, asking detailed questions about onset, duration, severity, and triggers. We'll also discuss your medical history, previous psychiatric treatments, family mental health history, current stressors, and your goals for treatment. This initial assessment allows me to formulate an accurate diagnosis and develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs. I use clinical interviews and validated screening tools, always explaining what I'm assessing and why. Diagnosis in psychiatry isn't always straightforward, and I'm transparent when there's diagnostic uncertainty. If medication is recommended, I take time to educate you about how it works, the expected timeline for improvement, potential side effects, and what to do if problems arise. We'll discuss your concerns and preferences, and I'll offer options when multiple medications could be appropriate. The decision to start medication is always yours. Subsequent visits for medication management are 30 minutes, usually monthly once stable. We review your symptom trajectory, assess medication tolerability, check for side effects, and adjust dosing as needed. I use measurement-based care when possible, incorporating symptom scales to track progress objectively. I maintain open communication and encourage you to contact the office between visits if issues arise. My practice philosophy centers on dignity, collaboration, and evidence-based treatment delivered with compassion. Mental health recovery is a journey, and I'm committed to supporting you every step of the way with patience and expertise. You deserve care that honors your experiences and empowers you toward lasting wellness and a fulfilling life. Together, we'll find the path forward.

I scheduled an appointment, but the provider was a no-show. They claimed there was an issue with the Zoom link and that they couldn’t see me in the room. Instead of notifying me about any technical difficulties, they decided to cancel without any notice or attempt to resolve the issues. I suspect the provider wasn't even in the room. When I called to let them know that I had already been in the zoom waiting room for seven minutes, the staff member stated she would inform the provider and would join me shortly, which suggested the provider hadn’t arrived yet. She also promised to call me back once the provider was available or if there were any updates. However, I never received a call back. When I reached out again, the staff member was rude and told me I was free to find another provider before abruptly hanging up.
