Before I became a physician assistant, I was a certified athletic trainer. While training athletes, I realized I wanted to do more to help people. Becoming a physician assistant gave me the path to achieving that, and it was during school that I discovered family medicine was the perfect specialty for me. This field allows me to not only build relationships with individual patients but also get to know the whole family in many cases. Family medicine presents daily challenges and keeps my brain working to find the right diagnoses and create the best individualized care plan for each patient. I try to understand not just each patient's current health, but their background and their needs. I want them to have a voice in their care, along with providing evidence-based care. I believe preventive care and a healthy lifestyle can improve well-being; I strive to help patients stay as healthy as possible, and I want to be a center of support when they are making changes to improve their health. I grew up in North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte. After living out of state for a few years, I moved back to Winston-Salem in 2007. When I am not working, I love spending time with my husband along with our two dogs and two cats. We love to travel, go hiking, visit new places and have adventures wherever we go. I also enjoy participating in triathlons to stay fit and active.
