Getting to know Jerin Charuvil

I am a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner based in Georgia. I am passionate about mental health and dedicated to providing quality, compassionate care to those struggling with various psychiatric conditions. I earned my Master's in Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Walden University, Minnesota, and hold a Bachelor's degree from Ebenezer College of Nursing. I aim to blend evidence-based practices with a holistic approach to promote well-being and healing. I am committed to cultural competence and honor the spiritual dimension of each patient, respecting their faith journey and incorporating it into the therapeutic work.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I hold advanced degrees and specialized training in psychiatric-mental health nursing, with experience working with diverse populations in hospitals and community health centers. I take on my profession wholeheartedly. I prioritize listening to patients, understanding their concerns, and validating their experiences. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and judgment-free environment for open and honest communication. Ensuring my clients' well-being is always my foremost concern. I believe in treating the whole person, not just symptoms, considering the physical, emotional, and social aspects of health. Your preferences, values, and needs are at the core of our collaborative treatment plans. Part of my treatment approach is medication management (if necessary) and providing my clients with the knowledge and tools they need to manage their mental health effectively. Mental health knowledge: information about diagnoses, causes, treatment options, symptoms, and their impact on daily life. Accurate diagnoses if any specific psychiatric condition is identified. Self-help techniques: Practical strategies or tools to manage symptoms and help to set realistic, achievable goals to live a fulfilling life. Feeling heard and understood by a provider can boost motivation and commitment to the treatment plan, leading to positive changes.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My diagnostic process is thorough and systematic to ensure an accurate assessment and an effective treatment plan. It includes: - Initial Patient Interview and History - Mental Status Examination (MSE) - Screening and Assessment Tools - Differential Diagnosis - Collaboration and Consultation - Diagnosis and Treatment Planning - Ongoing Assessment and Adjustment While I am trained in various aspects of mental health treatment, my primary focus is on diagnosis, medication management, and creating comprehensive treatment plans, rather than offering long-term talk therapy (such as in-depth psychotherapy). However, I do include brief therapeutic interventions as part of the treatment process, such as: - Educating patients about mental health conditions (psychoeducation). - Providing support with coping strategies. - Offering practical tools for managing symptoms, particularly for anxiety, depression, or stress. To ensure patients receive well-rounded care, I frequently refer them to specialized therapists or counselors (e.g., psychologists, licensed clinical social workers) for in-depth psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, or family therapy. These professionals complement the medical treatment I provide by offering focused therapeutic support. While I don’t typically practice long-term talk therapy, I integrate therapeutic principles into my care to support patients during the early stages of treatment, provide psychoeducation, and help manage symptoms effectively.

Dr Jerin really was a delight. She made me and my son feel so comfortable. I’ve always put my son’s behavior problems in the “he’s just a kid” basket. After 4 years of putting up with his aggression and ignorance, I was finally convinced by a friend who did the same. Dr Jerin explained everything in detail and helped me understand that I wasn’t alone. She heard me and she heard my son… I’ll be forever grateful to her.

Jerin took the time to listen carefully to my concerns and issues. She guided me through navigating new relationships and new beginnings. I truly felt heard, and not judged. I really appreciate her thoroughness, patience, and the comfortable environment she created. I left feeling hopeful and confident in next steps.
It was my first time attempting to seek any kind of mental help and even though I was very nervous, Jerin took time and lots of patience to work with me and made the overall process so much more into an enjoyable experience. At any point I never felt judged and it felt like there was someone genuine there to listen to me and I would definitely reccomend her to anyone seeking help.
I went to Jerin for assistance with relationship counseling and substance abuse. She has been an tremendous help and I have seen a notable improvement in both areas. I would definitely recommend.
