Dr. Jessica Clifton, PhD

Psychologist
VT
Everyone has feelings of emotional ups and downs at some point in their life. Therapy can be helpful when these feelings are too much, too often, or hurt the things and people we value most. I provide a safe, supportive space combined with strategies shown to help individuals feel better and reach their goals. I specialize in women's physical and emotional health throughout the lifespan, including starting school, entering the workforce, occupational burnout, reproductive health, parenthood, retirement, and next steps. I offer virtual psychological services for patients living in California or Vermont. Many of the strategies I use come from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mind and Body Therapies, Cognitive Processing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Vermont, where I also completed a fellowship at the Larner College of Medicine. I earned a Master’s in Research Psychology from San Francisco State University and received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You are the expert of you. As such, collaboration and trust are key parts to helping you guide treatment to suit your needs and meet your goals. In our first appointment, I hope to work with you to help you decide your next steps. I provide telepsychology for patients residing in Vermont or California. Patients that have previously been hospitalized in inpatient psychiatric settings and/or are currently experiencing thoughts of harming themselves, harming others, extreme distress (anxiety, depression, and/or psychosis), and/or substance abuse may benefit from more intensive local services (eg, face-to-face psychotherapy in conjunction with psychiatric care, partial hospitalization, group therapy). To find referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations you can use SAMHSA’s online treatment locator.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe in taking an active role as a therapist, providing a non-judgmental safe space and gentle inquiry to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to help patients feel better and reach their goals.

More information on payments and coverage

My 2023 fees are $200 for a 55-minute appointment. Our first appointment through ZocDoc is a 55-minute intake to better understand what is going on for you and to see if our work together could be a good fit. I am not participating in any insurance networks at this time. Patients can pay directly for services using a credit card through my online system. For patients with a health insurance policy and/or employee healthcare benefits (ie, FSA, HSA, or HRA) it will usually provide some coverage/reimbursement for telepsychology appointments (sometimes video-only is reimbursed, not audio). I will fill out forms and provide you with reasonable assistance to help you receive the benefits to which you are entitled.
