“Working with Dr. Behr was genuinely transformative for me. She’s warm, grounded, and incredibly easy to talk to, but also thoughtful in a way that helped me understand patterns I hadn’t noticed before. I always felt supported and never judged. She made the work feel approachable and gave me tools I still use every day. I’d highly recommend her to anyone looking for a therapist who is both insightful and truly relatable.”

Getting to know Dr. Jessica January Behr

Most people seek therapy when they are unhappy with one or more aspects of their lives. Whether you are struggling with work, love, family, or self, you might be wondering what will really help. I believe that understanding yourself is a great gift and a source of power. We, as people, are complicated beings. It takes effort and focused attention to parse out our complexity. It takes will and bravery to face ourselves-our lives, our pasts, presents, and futures. It also takes intention to appreciate our strengths and recognize the areas that need strengthening. In my practice, I will help you discover which aspects of your current life and functioning are working well and which no longer serve you. Together, we will explore what you want, why you want it, the obstacles in your way, and how to overcome them. We start where you are and work on your goals, paying special attention to your evolution over the course of treatment. My goals as your therapist are to gently facilitate your growth and to create a warm, sincere, and safe environment that fosters trust, honesty, openness, and authenticity. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Pace University, which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to support you effectively. In my work, I don't just sit, listen, and stare silently back at you. We will build a relationship, working collaboratively to help you gain greater perspective on the issues in your life and the sources of your unhappiness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a Licensed Psychologist in the states of New York and New Jersey. I earned a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology at Pace University’s School-Clinical Psychology Program. Psychodynamically oriented with a patient-centered and eclectic therapeutic approach, I mold each treatment to the needs of the individual integrating ACT, CBT, DBT and mindfulness techniques into traditional psychodynamic treatment when useful. I am trained to work with adults, adolescents and children. I received my training at multiple public and private institutions across New York City, including Mount Sinai Beth Israel, New York City Health and Hospitals – Jacobi Medical Center and the Institute for Psychoanalytic training and research. I completed my Post-Doctoral training at Metropolitan Center for Mental Health with a partnership with New York Presbyterian Hospital – Columbia.

I am an In-Network provider with Northwell Direct Tier 1 plans. We provide out-of-network billing support for reimbursement for all other clients. If we are not in-network with your plan we will work to get you significant reimbursement for the cost of your sessions. We submit claims on behalf of our patients so that you don’t have to deal with your insurance company. Here’s how works. Before you start therapy we will collect your insurance information, check your insurance benefits, provide you with an estimate of those benefits, and then allow you to make the most educated decision possible about your investment in therapy. If you decide to work with us, we will submit your insurance claims every week and give you access to the portal to check the status of the reimbursements. It is our goal to always remain transparent and to make the process of insurance reimbursements as clear as possible.

Dr. Behr really helped me with the testing needed for my test anxiety accommodation. I would recommend her every time.
Dr. Behr was very responsive in finding time to see me, she was amazing in understanding my needs and very helpful.
Working with Dr. Behr was genuinely transformative for me. Dr. Behr was one of the most influential and important people in my life. She supported me through some extreme unexpected circumstances and taught me strategies the built my confidence and self perception. Also, the overall practice has been so supportive and I have had two awesome group therapy sessions here. I hope to participate in another group in the future. If you’re looking for a therapist for sure reach out!
I found Dr. Behr when I was looking to find reasons for the intense anxieties I had in a brand new relationship I was in. From the start, her warm demeanor helped me feel supported and cared for. She provides a safe and comforting space for the work to begin. I felt so at ease throughout my time with her, even when we touched on more painful topics. She let me take my time in diving into painful memories and facilitated a space where I could work through reliving traumas and not feel scared to do so. She was gentle in pushing me to explore and evaluate where my feelings were coming from. As I explored, I felt she was right there with me the whole way. She always provided insight into the psychology behind my feelings and provided clarity to them. I left each session with a new outlook and a new way to approach my relationship next time the anxieties surfaced. Over time, they appeared less and less, which I credit to her guidance and tools in navigating through them. I truly believe my relationship would have not survived without Dr. Behr's help. Not only was my relationship repaired, but more importantly, I felt more secure in myself and felt a feeling of peace in my everyday life. I have a better handle on when the anxieties surface, and the spirals are pretty much non-existent. I encourage anyone who is looking for CBT to reach out to her.
I feel so fortunate that Dr. Behr was my first experience with therapy! She quickly made me feel comfortable enough to open up on difficult topics, and helped me navigate my feelings in thoughtful and productive ways. We explored areas I hadn’t even anticipated when first seeking therapy, and I regularly see the impact of our sessions in my day-to-day life. I couldn’t recommend Dr. Behr more!
Can't recommend Dr. Jessica Behr enough! She is compassionate, kind and weaves in therapy theory is a very digestible way. I've seen many therapists over the last 10+ years and have felt very comfortable with and understood by Dr. Behr.
I’ve been working with Jessica for nearly a year and am very grateful for our sessions, especially with the pandemic. She is a great listener and very down to earth. She remembers a lot of small details about my life and has connected many dots for me.
Dr. Behr is the absolute best. Brilliant and responsive, her knowledge base and ability to point out things you can't see through the things you say and the way you say them is phenomenal. My time with her has been invaluable, especially during the pandemic.
One of the most thoughtful and professional therapists that I've gone to. She listens carefully and patiently to what you have in mind without presuming anything about your problems and who you are; something that has really annoyed me in my previous experiences with therapists in general.
