Jessy Vargas, LAMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist
NY
The provider is a "Associate Marriage and Family Therapist" with license number 37FA00060700, practicing under the supervision of Rhea Parks. The skills that help you survive on the job are the same ones that can make life at home feel impossible. You might feel caught in a state of chronic anxiety, irritability, or guilt that your family doesn't understand. For couples, past trauma can feel like a third person in the room, hijacking communication and leaving you both stuck in exhausting cycles of conflict. You're not just surviving; you're ready to feel present and connected in your own life again. My approach is built on a foundation of trust and collaboration. Together, we will use proven, evidence-based methods to get to the root of these challenges. We'll use powerful tools like EMDR to help your brain process and file away traumatic memories so they no longer trigger you in the present. We'll also use practical, in-the-moment strategies from CBT and DBT to help you manage overwhelming emotions and improve your daily life. Reconnecting with your partner, your children, and yourself is possible. The first step is reaching out. We can briefly discuss what's going on and see if we're a good fit. You don't have to do this work alone.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with first responders and families affected by stress and trauma who feel stuck. My approach emphasizes partnership and the creation of a safe space to uncover their challenges. Together, we develop strategies to reduce anxiety and depression, aiming for lasting relief. My goal is to help you regain control, find calm, and reconnect with loved ones to achieve your aspirations.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My therapeutic approach uses evidence-based methods for effective treatment. I specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma processing, and I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help you manage emotions and tackle core issues.

We accept a limited number of commercial insurance plans: Aetna, Oscar Health, Oxford, United Healthcare, and Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield. We are unable to bill insurance directly for Couples and Family counseling. Couples/Family counseling has an out-of-pocket investment starting at $235. Only individualized psychiatric diagnostic codes are eligible for reimbursement from your insurance company. Please note that submitting an insurance claim means we will need to give you a mental health diagnosis. Important considerations regarding use of insurance. When considering whether or not to utilize insurance benefits to cover the cost of sessions, please consider the following: Insurance companies will require the clinician to give you a psychiatric diagnosis in order to reimburse for services. This diagnosis is part of your permanent medical record, and anyone who is given authorization to see your medical records can access this information. Your insurance company may request session records or a treatment plan at any time in order to evaluate the necessity of services (meaning, deciding if they want to pay for your sessions). Couple Psychotherapy is not covered by health insurance. In an effort to maintain the highest standard of ethics, the practice maintains a policy of not accepting insurance for couple’s work or billing under the procedure code for family therapy when working with clients in the context of couples therapy. When working with couples, we are treating your relationship and therefore cannot appropriately diagnose individual traits, which is required of all health insurance policies. Health Insurers will only issue reimbursement for individualized psychiatric diagnostic codes, not for the relational codes which more accurately account for relationship (rather than individual) dysfunction.
