Getting to know Dr. Jillian Stile

Beginning therapy is never easy. No matter how much you may know that therapy is important for advancing you toward your life goals or resolving an impasse, there is always anxiety as the time approaches—and necessarily so. I am sensitive to and appreciative of the courage it takes to explore oneself in therapy; I strive to create a welcoming atmosphere that facilitates this difficult but crucial work. I have a special affinity for working with young adults. I am well attuned to the psychological challenges attendant to the complex transitions in our culture—from high school to college and the less widely discussed transition from college to young adult life. I have in-depth experience with this age group, including their confusion and explorations of sexual experience, as well as the long dark corridors of eating disorders and addictions. I have worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient hospital settings. Having seen it all and found ways to help a wide variety of individuals, I am well positioned to offer hope. I specialize in working with people suffering from anxiety and depression, substance-related issues, concerns about sexuality, and various forms of trauma. Among my particular sensitivities are people in transitional periods in their lives, such as adolescents and young adults struggling to negotiate transitions into and out of college, into the workforce, changing jobs, and relationships. I am experienced in helping individuals find "true self" expression integrated with the many demands for compromise and conformity they face in life. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from The New School, a Master’s in Mental Health and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University, and certificates in Adult Psychoanalysis from Columbia University and Global Mental Health and Refugee Trauma from Harvard University.

Jillian was very kind and listened to my long list of concerns. She was very upfront with me about the details of treatment. I am usually turned off by the idea of therapy but she made me feel very comfortable. She asked a lot of open ended questions, which was very effective for me. I would recommend her on the one appointment I have had so far.
