About Joan Pohutsky
Joan Pohutsky, a Doctor of Nursing Practice for more than a decade, has been a trusted member of the Dermatologic Surgery Center of Washington since 2023. Patients value her thoroughness, technical skill, and warm bedside manner.
She earned her DNP from Rush University, where she also completed her dermatology residency and served as lead Mohs and surgical nurse. Joan began her career at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the surgical ICU and later practiced at Rush University Medical Center before returning to Maryland.
In addition to her clinical work, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Dermatology Nurses’ Association and is also a Chapter President.
At DSCW, Joan provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology services with a focus on prevention, early detection, and personalized treatment.

I went to Dr. Pohutsky for my annual skin check and she was wonderful. She explained how the process worked, explained anything that she found that she wanted to keep track of, and made me feel extremely comfortable. She was incredibly thorough and overall provided a great experience. I will definitely be returning for all my skin checks moving forward!

My entire experience was excellent. My only issue was that of Zocdoc told provider that I was a new patient, even though I selected when I made the appointment that I was an existing patient. Zocdoc charges providers when it’s a new patient, and my provider should not have been charged. As it relates to PA Joan, I had seen her 1x, and I was incredibly impressed with the amount of time she spent with me, that she listened and she didn’t just want to write a prescription and be done with me. She also appreciated what has worked in the past for my treatments, and didn’t try to reinvent the wheel with what works for me, but made new recommendations if I was open to them. I also want to applaud the Front Desk and staff at this office. They pick up their phone. They call back. They don’t make you be on some portal that sends you 1 million messages. The Front Desk is knowledgeable and hustles. That is unheard of these days, especially with Derm practices that just try to automate everything.

Dr. Pohutsky was wonderful! Extremely personable, made me feel comfortable, and she was quick but thorough. The office staff and PA were lovely as well. Went for an annual full body skin check and I was extremely happy with the experience (spoken by someone who gets anxious before doctor visits).

Great experience. Doctor P. listened carefully to what I had to say and was responsive. I suppose this is because Doctor P. is an independent practitioner for whom being attentive to clients is a must. A while ago I went to Georgetown UH for another issue and my experience was horrendous. I was taken care of by staff, and the famous physician I went to see spent a minute or less with me and wasn’t listening to anything I was saying. Doctor P. was the opposite

I went here for a simple mole check because they said they would take my insurance. People should be aware that the office charges hundreds of dollars just for being a new patient. I will not be returning.

Scheduling my appointment for was easy with the online booking system. The office staff was friendly and check-in was quick because I had filled out the registration in advance.
This was my first full body skin check. The medical assistant and doctor were both friendly and thorough. I had a few areas of concern but they took samples with very minimal discomfort.
Checkout was easy. They sent me a message in advance so I would know what my copay would be based on my insurance.
Overall, I highly recommend Joan Pohutsky and The Dermatology Surgery Center!

My appointment was with Dr. Joan Pohutsky, DNP and I had a great experience from the time that I walked in. The staff was very friendly and there was really no wait time. Dr. Pohutsky was compassionate, a keen listener, extremely knowledgeable and designed a game plan specifically for me. I would highly recommend her, she knows her stuff.
