About Dr. Joanne So

Born and raised in Georgia, Dr. Joanne So is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals and families across all stages of life. She graduated summa cum laude with honors from the University of Georgia in Athens and went on to earn her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Georgia Campus – Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (GA-PCOM) in Suwanee, Georgia. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Northside Gwinnett Family Medicine Residency in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Passionate about preventive care, Dr. So enjoys building long-term relationships with her patients and guiding them toward healthier, more balanced lives.
One of her most memorable experiences involved a patient newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes who chose lifestyle changes over medication. Through consistent effort and counseling, the patient reversed their diabetes and regained energy and confidence—an outcome that reinforced Dr. So’s belief in the power of education and patient empowerment.
Outside of work, Dr. So enjoys spending time with her poodle—her loyal companion since medical school—as well as baking, reading, and enjoying picnics with friends and family. She feels fortunate to have many of her loved ones close by.
Dr. So is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and is committed to fostering wellness through compassionate and collaborative care.

The wait wasn’t bad, the clinic was clean, and the doctor was pleasant. However, I went in specifically to get a prescription for a GLP medication that I have previously taken and tolerated well. This was visible in my chart through my pharmacy refill history.
Despite this, the doctor declined to prescribe it, stating she wanted to help me save money, even after I clearly explained that I understood my insurance does not cover the medication and that I was willing to pay out of pocket.
It felt as though my request for the medication was used to push additional visits instead of addressing my needs. Given that I am overweight, have joint issues, and have already been prescribed this medication in the past without any problems, I don’t understand why restarting the entire process was necessary.

Dr. So has always provided great care and wonderful specialist recommendations. As a RN, I am comforted knowing that she understands that patient care is unique to each individual. She listens to my concerns and needs & has excellent bedside manner. She always discusses her treatment plan with me right in the room (I.e. orders for lab work or imaging, referrals to specialists, medications, etc.). And she has always referred me to in-network specialists (I have Aetna POS II), including a dermatologist and GI specialist.
Both of which are amazing doctors as well!
When I do have to wait a little bit (which is rare!! I have maybe waited max 15-20 min), I have NO problem with it because I know she is giving the best care possible to each person she sees and not trying to push them out the door as fast as possible. She is well worth the wait.
From the front desk personnel to the MAs & Dr. So, this is a wonderful team. I am confident putting my care in their hands.
