Jocelyn Lieb was born in Boston, MA, and raised in Staten Island, NY, alongside her two sisters and one brother. She received her bachelor of science degree in the biological sciences from SUNY Buffalo in 2000, and her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in 2004. While at SUNY Buffalo, she was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, and graduated magna cum laude. She went on to graduate in the top of her medical school class in 2004. During her medical school years in Boston, she became involved in exciting research at Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard University, studying the genomes of specific benign and cancerous skin tumors. After graduating with her medical degree, she completed a one-year research fellowship where she continued her research studies. During this fellowship year, she had the opportunity to work with world-renowned dermatologic oncologist Dr. Thomas Kupper, seeing patients with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and other rare skin cancers at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Lieb subsequently returned to New York City and completed her internal medicine internship at the Mount Sinai Hospital. Following her internship, she was accepted into a research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she researched dermoscopy (a combination of very specialized magnifying lenses coupled with polarized and non-polarized light, allowing dermatologists to see structures in the skin, rather than simply on the skin) and confocal microscopy. In 2007, Dr. Lieb began her dermatology residency at Columbia University School of Medicine. During this three-year training program, she gained experience in both adult and pediatric dermatology, as well as cutaneous oncology, rheumatology, and cosmetic and surgical dermatology.
