Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
NJ
Hello, I’m Joel Pierre, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of experience in healthcare and advanced training in psychiatry. I provide care to adolescents, adults, and seniors navigating a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, addiction, and complex co-occurring disorders. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University and my Master’s degree in Psychiatric Mental Health from Walden University. Throughout my career, I have worked in both public and private inpatient and outpatient settings, including crisis environments such as Bridgeway Crisis, where I supported individuals facing severe and urgent mental health challenges. These experiences have shaped my ability to provide calm, thoughtful care even in complex and high-pressure situations. I am especially passionate about serving diverse and often underserved populations, including healthcare professionals, first responders, military personnel, and members of the LGBTQ community. My work is guided by a mission to improve access to compassionate, high-quality mental health care for individuals who may not always feel seen or understood. My approach is holistic and deeply patient-centered. I believe mental health is closely connected to physical health, environment, and life experiences, and I work to understand the full picture of each individual I treat. By combining evidence-based medication management with supportive, therapy-informed care, I aim to help you not only manage symptoms, but also build resilience and regain a sense of control and stability in your life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Seeking mental health care can feel like a big step, and I want you to know that you will be met with respect, understanding, and genuine support from the start. When we work together, you can expect a collaborative and judgment-free environment where your voice matters. I take time to listen carefully and understand your experiences, challenges, and goals so that your care feels truly personalized. You will not be treated as just a diagnosis. Instead, I focus on who you are as a whole person. I also recognize that different individuals face unique pressures, whether related to work, identity, or life circumstances. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe being open, while also providing clear guidance and practical tools to help you move forward with confidence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work begins with a comprehensive initial evaluation where we explore your mental health history, current symptoms, lifestyle factors, and personal goals. This first step allows me to develop a clear and thoughtful understanding of your needs while also building a strong foundation of trust. From there, we create a personalized treatment plan tailored specifically to you. I take an integrative approach that may include medication management, supportive therapy, and evidence-based techniques such as psychoeducation and structured interventions when appropriate. I also emphasize helping you understand your diagnosis and treatment options so you can make informed decisions about your care. Follow-up sessions are focused on consistent support, progress tracking, and thoughtful adjustments to your treatment. I pay close attention to how you are responding and work with you to refine your plan as needed. Care is always evolving, and I make sure it continues to align with your goals and experiences. My overall goal is to provide more than symptom relief. I aim to help you build long-term stability, improve your quality of life, and feel more empowered in managing your mental health.

Extremely unprofessional. Prescribed my medication wrong. The pharmacy and I tried to get in contact with him for two days. He got angry and said it was my fault, when he was the one who incorrectly prescribed the medication. Then he told me he should have never seen me during his “vacation.” No one asked him to see patients on his vacation, he did that willingly. You cannot see patients and then disappear when issues arise, claiming you are on “vacation.” Especially when you told no one you’d be on vacation. Especially to blame the patients for issues YOU are to blame for. Extremely rude.

Horrible. He would do 15 minutes of therapy time, and I wouldn't even be able to work with him. It's just so rushed. Everything is rushed. He is not here for the patients. You do 30 minutes and he cuts it off, in the middle of an idea and everything! That's just not enough time to even make you feel like you need therapy. Maybe therapists are just full of it!
