About Dr. John Couvaras
Dr. John Couvaras, fertility specialist at IVF Phoenix, leads the friendly and experienced team at one of Arizona’s top infertility treatment centers. Dr. Couvaras is a double board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist who earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas, San Antonio. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine and his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His methodology with all his patients is to offer completely individualized care and attention at our practice to successfully conceive and carry to a live birth. He is an active member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine and was the past director of Reproductive Endocrinology and Assisted Reproductive Medicine as well as past chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Paradise Valley Hospital.
He is certified in CO2 and YAG laser surgery, operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, and microsurgical tubal and pelvic surgery. His expertise includes all aspects of female reproductive medicine and surgery.
Dr. Couvaras is a fertility doctor who is unconditionally committed to his work and willing to work with you to design a plan that fits your diagnosis and your desires. Dr. Couvaras was very difficult to follow and understand. I am a healthcare provider and have pretty good health literacy but I left the appointment very unsure what his recommendations were. He tries to describe medical concepts using analogies but this makes him even more unclear because he spends more time explaining his analogies rather than your actual medical condition or the actual name of diagnostic tests. He did not listen to my preferences as a patient and recommended an approach that I explicitly said I did not want at the beginning of the appointment. I was hoping for a thorough consultation with a reproductive endocrinologist and not just be sold an IVF package. I left the appointment very disappointed and felt it was a waste of time and money.

Dr. Couvaras truly cares about his patients. He takes the time to listen, creates individual treatment plans and gives you hope. I have been to several other fertility doctors and he is the BEST! His staff is also AMAZING! They care about you and become your biggest cheerleaders during the process.

Well the consult was a waste of time and money. He spent 15 minutes with me and then said we could chat more once I got blood work done - which would of course cost more money for another appointment. He didn’t answer any of my questions or even care that I had questions. I won’t be going back.

I am so grateful for finding Dr. Couvaras for my follow up appointment. He was incredibly invested, knowledgeable and educated me on his concerns and my potential future. He found a fibroid two other doctors never saw, went so in depth I never even thought to consider some things and instead of jumping to IVF immediately like all my doctor's before he wants to search for the root of our issue first! I felt that the staff and MD were very knowledgeable and kind. I felt like my questions were answered, and I definitely recommend them.
The paperwork was a little excessive, I completed online forms and I was emailed forms and then filled out more forms when I first got there. That is my only complaint.

Couvaras is an out of the box thinker. He makes a point to break down the medical talk. He draws pictures, shows you slides, and more. I went to couvaras when nobody could diagnose me. He diagnosed me with kidney failure in 2012 and when I started having another problem I went back to him again. He goes above and beyond and leaves no stone unturned.

Dr. Couvaras satisfied our fears as we ventured through the IVF journey for round 3. He was amazingly informative and offered what neither doctor before him has, a systemic look into my personal health history beyond the industry standard protocol. He took the time to elaborate on every facet of our case. He did this with smiles and understanding. We are very pleased to proceed with our 3rd ivf with Dr. Couvaras.

Dr. Couvaras is an excellent doctor who is up to date on his knowledge regarding recurrent miscarriage. His philosophies & recommendations are tailored to your individual difficulties. At his office we felt for the first time that someone finally understood our struggles & how they were different from infertility. We liked how Dr. Couvaras always gave treatment options & education about each one. We felt that we truly understood "why" he recommended treatments but also felt we had a choice. After 4 consectutive miscarriages over 3 years, our beautiful daughter, McKenzie, was born on June 4,2015. She could not have come to be without Dr. Couvaras. After trying for 4 years on our own to get pregnant, we finally decided it was me to see a specialist. I was referred to Dr. Couvaras by someone who had been to multiple other fertility Drs without success until she went to Dr. Couvaras. She told me he thinks outside the box her testimonial was good enough for me! I have been to IVF process any times. It has always been a welcoming, comfortable environment. They are very prompt getting you back which is greatly appreciated! Dr. Couvaras saw me & my husband for our first appointment where he asked all sorts of questions and we formulated game plan. I got pregnant my first round of AI with our first daughter & when I were ready, we did the same process w/ baby girl #2! Because of Dr. Couvaras I am a mom! What more can I say? He made my dreams come true. When you want a baby so much for so long, it’s always on your mind & there is nothing your heart aches for more! I appreciate Dr. Couvaras & his staff more than words will ever be able to express! Their team is amazing & always explained everything very well to me. I couldn’t believe how available they always were. Wonderful office will be seeing Dr. Couvaras many more times in the future as he is the only fertility Dr. I want to see!

Dr. Couvaras was the 3rd fertility specialist we'd seen in two years. We'd had two failed attempts at IUI and knew IVF was not an option for us. We saw quickly not only was his philosophy different, but he spent over an hour and a half with us at our first appt. He'd read my chart and was prepared with questions. Unheard of! It was then he began explaining why he thought this was really about my endocrine system, not solely a fertility issue. I completed the protocol designed for my endocrine system and never felt better! I was skeptical because at first site, it's a bit overwhelming but it really changed my life for the better. I felt better. Slept better. Had more energy and overall, improved health!
Everyone at the office is so diligent and friendly. Jacque and Sheleena are amazing! The follow up is always prompt and they were patient with me every time I called, which was often! Doc remembers you and many of your details despite the length of time between visits. At this writing, we're 9 weeks pregnant with identical twins and owe it all to Dr. Couvaras and his team. We're so lucky to have found them!!
