John Lopez, APRN

Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
FL
I am John J. Lopez, DNP, PMHNP-BC, a doctoral-level, board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 13 years of experience in psychiatry and Co-Founder and Clinical Director of MindSolutions Psychiatry, a telehealth practice serving Florida and New York. My path in psychiatry began on the ground floor as a mental health technician, then a nurse, and now a doctoral-level provider. That journey shapes everything about how I practice. I understand what it feels like to sit on the other side of the system, and I bring that perspective into every appointment. I specialize in complex psychiatric evaluation, advanced psychopharmacology, and perinatal mental health. My consultation-liaison background means I manage psychiatric care in the context of complex medical illness, something most outpatient providers are not equipped to do. I am bilingual in English and Spanish with a deep commitment to culturally responsive care for Latino and Hispanic communities. Finding a provider who speaks your language is often the difference between getting help and giving up. I listen carefully, think critically, and build treatment plans that fit your life. Medications are one tool, not the whole plan. Every patient deserves a complete evaluation, a clear explanation, and a provider genuinely invested in their progress. New patients are seen within 48 to 72 hours. Whether you are navigating depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, perinatal mental health, or a complex condition that has been difficult to diagnose, I have availability now. At MindSolutions Psychiatry, we don't just manage symptoms. We find answers. Healing Through Connection.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is different from what most patients have experienced in psychiatric care. I do not operate on a conveyor belt model where you are seen for ten minutes, handed a prescription, and sent on your way. I take time. I ask questions that other providers have not asked. I read between the lines. You should expect our first appointment to be thorough and unhurried. Come prepared to talk about your full history, not just your current symptoms. The more context you give me the better I can help you. I am direct but compassionate. I will tell you what I think, explain my reasoning, and always invite your input. Your treatment plan is something we build together, not something I hand down to you. I hold myself to a high standard of availability and follow through. If your medication needs adjusting, I want to know. If something is not working, I want to hear it. You will not feel like you are chasing your provider. For Spanish speaking patients, all care is available entirely in Spanish from the first appointment forward. What I ask of you in return is honesty, consistency, and a willingness to engage in your own care. Psychiatric treatment works best as a partnership. I bring the clinical expertise and you bring the commitment. Together we find what works.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with a comprehensive initial evaluation that goes well beyond a standard psychiatric intake. I take a full psychiatric, medical, and social history, review prior diagnoses and medications, and spend time understanding who you are as a person, not just your symptoms. I do not rush this appointment. By the end of our first session you will have a clear working diagnosis, a personalized treatment plan, and a genuine understanding of the reasoning behind every recommendation I make. From there, follow up appointments focus on monitoring treatment response, adjusting medications as needed, and addressing any new or evolving concerns. I practice collaborative care, meaning I work alongside your therapist, primary care provider, or specialist when relevant to ensure your treatment is coordinated and comprehensive. I incorporate supportive therapeutic techniques including CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing into my sessions. I do not simply prescribe and move on. My consultation-liaison training means I think systemically, always considering the medical, psychological, and social factors that influence your mental health. For perinatal patients, I follow evidence based protocols specific to pregnancy and postpartum care. For Spanish speaking patients, all care is available entirely in Spanish. My goal in every appointment is the same. You leave with clarity, a plan, and a provider who is fully invested in your progress.
