Getting to know Dr. John Pasagiannis

The decision to seek help can be challenging, as there are many kinds of treatments for different issues. Successful treatment depends on the relationship between you and your therapist. I make it a priority to engage with you in a genuine and warm manner that promotes human connection and contributes to improvement in your physical and emotional well-being, relationships, and career. I work with successful individuals to assist them in working through blocks that may interfere with their capacity to embrace and build on success. I will help you understand and work through these patterns that contribute to difficulties. In addition to my work as a general practitioner, I specialize in the treatment of substance use issues utilizing harm reduction psychotherapy. Harm reduction psychotherapy favors an integrative approach and incorporates psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and motivational enhancement techniques that promote insight, positive change, and empowerment. In my 15 years of experience working with these complex issues, I have witnessed how mutuality, respect, and collaboration enhance positive, incremental change and self-empowerment. Together, we will develop a plan for positive change and minimization of harm. I will assist you in developing healthy alternatives to manage stress, minimize disruptive patterns, and improve your sense of self. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology and a Master's in Psychology from Adelphi University, and completed a fellowship at Roosevelt Hospital. I look forward to speaking with you and being part of your journey toward leading a fulfilling life.

I came to this professional to seek an evaluation for ADHD and possible medication. We were well into our session before I was told he could not prescribe medication, but I continued with the session. I have since found a Psychiatrist who evaluated me for ADHD and has prescribed medication. I mistakenly made an appointment with the wrong type of medical professional.

I have been a patient of Dr. John for 4 years. I find his approach to be nuanced, thoughtful, and insightful. Very highly recommended.
Dr. Pasagiannis responded to my needs in a warm and inviting manner, asking timely questions that helped clarify factors contributing to my anxiety while providing me with tools to decrease the stress I was experiencing. He is approachable, kind, and authentic. Highly recommended.
Dr. John is an exceptional therapist with a broad ranging skill set. He is affable, emapthetic and effective. Our time together has assisted me in achieving a range of personal goals. As an openly gay man, it can be more challening to find a professional with an apprectiation for some of the unique challenges in the lives of LGBT individuals. I highly reccomend Dr. John and belive he can be of assistance to a diverse set of patients and needs.
Dr. Pasagiannis is a warm, caring therapist. He is insightful and able to provide feedback in a clear, concise manner that was useful and helped me work through some issues that were causing me distress. He was also able to offer stress management tools that I could use to manage difficult periods at work. Highly recommended.
I've been seeing John for over two years. He's exceedingly professional, easy to work with, and knows when to listen, when to talk, and what questions to ask. When we are together, it truly feels we are collaborators working towards a common goal. I know that choosing a therapist is a deeply personal decision and that different people look for different things, so I can only share my own experience. Over the past two and a half years, my life has gotten better: my anxiety has gotten easier to deal with, I have become more like the person I want to be both at work and in my personal life, and I am happier. I attribute this primarily to my work with John. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Pasagiannis is compassionate, thoughtful and professional. He is easy to talk to. I felt understood and appreciated his insightful feedback. Highly recommend!!
