John Wildgust, PMHNP

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
CA
I'm a certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-C) providing telehealth psychiatric care to adults across California. My focus is thoughtful, personalized medication management combined with supportive, collaborative conversation, because effective treatment means understanding the whole person, not just a diagnosis. I work with adults navigating depression, anxiety, panic, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, sleep difficulties, and the stress of major life transitions. Whether you're seeking psychiatric care for the first time or looking for a provider who will genuinely listen, my goal is to help you feel heard, steady, and supported. My approach is grounded in evidence-based medicine and real partnership. Together we'll take time to understand your history, your goals, and what matters most to you, then build a clear, manageable plan, adjusting it thoughtfully as your needs change. I believe good psychiatric care should feel calm, unhurried, and rooted in resilience: helping you not only manage symptoms, but build a stronger foundation for the life you want. Telehealth makes this care accessible from wherever you're most comfortable, on a schedule that fits your life. I offer initial evaluations and ongoing follow-up visits, and I'm currently welcoming new patients. If you're ready to take the next step, I'd be glad to work with you. I look forward to meeting you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe psychiatric care works best as a partnership. I take time to understand you as a whole person (your history, your day-to-day life, and what you actually want from treatment) rather than moving straight to a prescription. You can expect me to listen carefully, explain things in plain language, and involve you in every decision about your care. My practice is fully telehealth, so you can meet with me from wherever you feel most comfortable, on a schedule that fits your life. I work with adults managing depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, sleep difficulties, and the stress of life transitions, and I welcome both people seeking care for the first time and those looking for a provider who will genuinely listen. I aim to make each visit calm and unhurried. Mental health treatment isn't one-size-fits-all, so I'll adjust your plan thoughtfully over time as we learn what works best for you. My goal is to help you feel steady, supported, and confident in your care, building not just symptom relief, but a stronger foundation for the life you want.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My work with clients usually follows a clear, collaborative path: Initial evaluation. Your first visit is a thorough, unhurried conversation (about 60 minutes) where we review your history, symptoms, past treatment, and goals. I want to understand your full picture before we decide anything. A personalized plan. Together we'll build a plan tailored to you, which may include medication, practical strategies, and supportive follow-up. If medication is recommended, we'll talk through the options, the benefits, and your questions, so you feel fully informed. Follow-up and fine-tuning. Follow-up visits are typically shorter and scheduled at a pace that suits you. We'll track your progress, discuss how you're feeling, and adjust as needed. Good psychiatric care often takes some thoughtful fine-tuning to get right. Ongoing, steady support. As you stabilize, visits may space out, and I'll remain a consistent partner in your care for as long as you need it. Throughout, my role is to listen, explain, and collaborate, never to rush. You'll always be an active participant in every decision about your care.
