Getting to know John Yates

Welcome to Storyguide Mental Health, a sanctuary where your narrative is not only acknowledged but deeply respected. I understand that embarking on this journey might have taken a substantial amount of effort and courage. Whether you found your way here independently or were guided by a caring person in your life, acknowledging the need for assistance is often the bravest and most challenging step. My name is John. I hold a Master’s in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from the University of Colorado and have devoted over two decades to the field of Emergency Medicine, where I was privileged to witness the resilience of the human spirit in times of immense crisis. Throughout my tenure, I discovered the profound fulfillment that comes from being a compassionate listener and guide during people’s moments of vulnerability, helping them navigate through their personal stories of trials, triumphs, and transformations. Now in this ensuing phase of my career, I extend an invitation to you to embark on a holistic and integrative journey toward mental wellness. Drawing inspiration from Viktor Frankl’s profound development of logotherapy, I firmly believe in the transformative power of finding purpose and meaning in every chapter of one’s life. In-person appointments are available only the first two weeks of the month. Telehealth appointments are available all month long.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In my role as your mental wellness guide, I am committed to partnering with you to sculpt the healthiest version of your narrative, where every facet of your life and history is given the attention and respect it deserves. Together, we will venture beyond surface symptoms, seeking to uncover and address the root causes of your challenges, intertwining therapy with recommendations encompassing various spheres of your life: sleep, diet, exercise, and belief patterns you may hold.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your individualized care plan will be evidence-based and cost-effective, shaped with your invaluable input and consent. I highly advocate the inclusion of a support person - a family member or close friend - in your journey to amplify the prospects of your success. Rest assured, if you’re navigating this path solo, we will work diligently to build a supportive framework around you. As we collaborate to craft your personalized roadmap to mental wellness, potentially incorporating supplements, therapy, diet recommendations, and prescription medication where necessary, my approach will always echo the ethos of “starting low and going slow.” I am here to facilitate a space where you feel seen, heard, and valued, leaving each appointment with a clear and reasonable action plan and time frame.

John is a mental health professional you can truly count on. From day one, he offered more than just textbook advice. He took the time to understand my unique struggles and crafted a care plan that felt designed just for me. I always felt heard and validated, never judged or rushed. What I appreciate most about John is his genuine empathy. Our time together felt like safe, nurturing conversations, not clinical appointments. He created an environment where I could openly share my challenges and perspectives without fear. With his consistent support, I started feeling more confident and equipped to handle life’s challenges. John's approach is both knowledgeable and caring, a perfect blend for anyone seeking help through rough patches in life. He’s not just a therapist but a genuine supporter of me and my story. Thanks to him, I feel more control over my life and see a brighter future ahead.
Working with John is a transformative experience. My voice was heard, and my pain acknowledged. John navigated through my struggles with genuine empathy, providing invaluable insights and practical tools that empowered me to make peace with my old story and write a new one. His approach is a blend of professionalism and warmth, which makes sessions feel like a conversation with a trusted friend, rather than a clinical appointment. If you find yourself ready to take the step to get support, know that with John, healing isn’t just possible, it’s a collaborative journey towards a happier, more resilient you.
John was extremely kind and professional. I felt like he truly cared about me and what I was going through. He listened and asked thoughtful questions. By the end of the appointment I felt like I had a good plan to take me forward.
John, is very approachable and professional. He listened to my concerns (without judgement) with compassion and was able to offer several options to assist me in my healing journey. It's important to feel heard and validated, which I did with him. I highly recommend John. He has the ability and guidance that helped me navigate and stay true to my own story, authentically. I'm excited to continue our work together! Thank you, John.
Love John’s approach to care. His experience as a provider gives him a holistic view of me as a patient. He asked really thoughtful questions around my personal, medical, sleep, exercise, and diet history that painted a full picture. Rather than “prescribe” a solution and send me out the door, I felt like John was curious and empathetic - invested in the fullness of my healing journey. Looking forward to continued care and partnership with John!
