Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry)
14201 Kentwood Blvd, Victorville, CA
I am Jonas Linebaugh. I am a veteran, proud father of two, emergency nurse, and board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner providing mental health services with a focus on men's health, postpartum mothers, veterans & first responders, young adults, and new parents. I take an integrative approach, focusing on all of the lifestyle factors that play a role in one's mental health — diet, movement, sleep, caffeine intake, and associated medical problems. I prefer an outcome focused approach. We are all capable of achieving remarkable things, let us not focus simply on our problems, but on where we want to end up. Taking care of your mind is the first step in taking care of your health. Don't let stigma stop you. Have the courage to heal — everything else improves from there.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I like to understand the full picture of my patients’ lives so I can address every possible source of their mental health concerns. I believe medication can be useful and is sometimes necessary; however, I’m also a firm believer in looking closely at a person’s lifestyle as well — such as caffeine use, sleep quality and quantity, diet and lifestyle choices, exercise habits, other medical conditions, and any medications that might be contributing negatively to mental health. I prefer to work with my clients to create a plan that truly fits their needs and aligns with their goals. My approach is outcome‑focused. I believe we are all capable of remarkable things, and that our attention shouldn’t rest solely on our problems, but on where we want to end up.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For the initial intake evaluation, we spend more time together so I can go through a standardized question form that helps establish a baseline of who you are, what your needs may be, and what symptoms you’re experiencing. After that, I invite my clients to tell me—in their own words—what brought them in. This gives space for you to open up and describe what you’re feeling and going through, rather than being limited to yes/no questions or the structure of the form. I’m also a fan of brief talk‑therapy sessions, particularly solution‑focused brief therapy. I find it pairs well with medication therapy because it’s an outcome‑focused approach. I like to highlight my clients’ strengths and help them see what they’re capable of achieving. During the intake, we’ll also establish baseline scores on screening tools such as the PHQ‑9, MDQ, and GAD‑7. It’s important to remember that these screeners are meant to measure progress over time, not to determine a diagnosis. Follow‑up appointments are shorter (typically 30–45 minutes) and may include medication dose adjustments, addressing side effects, augmenting current medications, evaluating new psychiatric symptoms, or changing medications altogether if needed. In these sessions, we’ll also review screening tool scores and compare them to previous results to track progress. We will also go over any lab results or other test results at this time.
