Dr. Jorja Redway, PhD

Psychologist
NY
I’m a licensed psychologist with a Ph.D. from Columbia University and over a decade of experience supporting adults as well as elderly adults through life’s most complex and painful moments. My work is grounded in a deep respect for the lived experiences that shape who we are; especially those influenced by personal, cultural, and systemic stressors. I bring warmth, empathy, depth, and curiosity into the therapy room; helping individuals navigate struggles including but not limited to depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, trauma, grief and loss, as well as racial-cultural, identity and immigrant concerns. My clinical background spans a wide range of settings which include: psychiatric emergency, inpatient, outpatient, forensic, women’s health, sub-acute care, geriatric and counseling center placements. These diverse experiences have sharpened my ability to meet people where they are; whether they’re just beginning therapy or are returning to deepen their growth. Therapy with me is not a one-size-fits-all experience as I use an integrative, culturally responsive and evidence-based approach. I work collaboratively with each client to create a therapeutic space where insight can grow, patterns can shift, and transformation can unfold in a way that honors the unique complexity of your story. Whether you’re facing a recent loss, navigating a major life transition, or struggling with long-standing emotional pain, therapy offers a powerful space for meaningful change; and you don’t have to do it alone. Healing begins with one decision; your journey forward can start now! Don't hesitate to schedule an appointment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel both hopeful and uncertain. Sometimes the hardest part is taking the first step, this could be yours! My style is relational, reflective, and culturally responsive. I believe that healing begins with feeling truly seen and understood. I strive to create an environment that is warm, nonjudgmental, and grounded in mutual respect. Clients often tell me they feel deeply listened to and that they appreciate how I balance empathy with gentle challenge as well as a participatory approach. I also respect that each person’s history, identity, and way of moving through the world is unique. I welcome conversations about culture, race, gender, spirituality, and other factors that influence your experience. Therapy is not about “fixing” you, rather, it’s about helping you uncover insight, shift patterns, and reconnect with your own wisdom and strength. Whether you're someone who prefers talking through emotions, exploring past experiences, or setting tangible goals, we'll work together to shape a process that fits you. You don’t need to come with all the answers, just a willingness to show up as you are. I’ll meet you there. Please note: Once you book an appointment on ZocDoc, please look out for an email from me and a separate invitation email from Headway (the secure and HIPAA- compliant platform I use to manage all client scheduling, billing, and documentation). You'll need to complete a brief intake process through Headway within 24 hours of booking. This includes entering a payment method. You'll also be guided to review and sign standard forms such as informed consent, privacy practices, and practice policies. Completing these steps ensures your appointment can proceed as scheduled.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work begins with curiosity about your history, your present concerns, and the kind of future you envision. In early sessions, I focus on getting to know you holistically: your values, your strengths, your pain points, and what’s felt missing or overwhelming. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in now, and I’ll help you make connections between current struggles as well as past experiences, always moving at a pace that feels right for you. Sessions may involve deep reflection, open dialogue, or more structured strategies depending on your needs. While I often draw from psychodynamic principles to explore emotional patterns and relational dynamics, I also integrate tools from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and strength-based approaches to support symptom relief as well as emotional regulation when needed. Over time, therapy becomes a space where you can try out new ways of thinking, feeling, and relating, without pressure or shame. It’s a place to gain clarity, find emotional footing, and feel more empowered in your life outside the therapy room. Our goal is always forward movement, anchored in compassion and insight.
