Jose Fregoso, PMHNP-BC

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
CA
I went from EMT to COVID ICU/ER nurse, to inpatient/outpatient care Psych RN to board-certified psychiatric NP, and each step taught me how deeply trauma, burnout, and mental health are connected. I specialize in ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, burnout, and sleep disorders, with a particular focus on first responders and healthcare workers who know what it's like on the front lines. But I'm here for anyone navigating their mental health and ready for help. My approach is integrative and holistic. That means I don't just write prescriptions, I look at the whole picture: medications when needed, therapy that goes deep, plus evidence-based support for sleep, nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle. Your mind and body aren't separate, and your treatment shouldn't be either. As a first-generation Mexican-American who grew up in the San Fernando Valley, I meet you where you are at. I also understand the cultural barriers that sometimes keep people from seeking help. I provide bilingual care in English and Spanish because access to quality mental health care shouldn't depend on the language you speak. My style is warm, real, and a little nerdy. I bring genuine curiosity to every session and zero judgment. Available 100% via telehealth across all of California. José Fregoso, PMHNP-BC, at your service. Ready when you are.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'm 100% telehealth, so all sessions happen over secure video from wherever you're comfortable. I take the time to listen and get to know you. Your first session is 60 minutes minimum, so we're never rushing. I accept major insurance through Headway and also see self-pay clients. I offer a free 15-minute consultation if you want to connect before committing. I'm bilingual in English and Spanish, and I respond to messages between sessions because I know questions don't wait for appointments. If you've had bad experiences with providers who felt rushed or impersonal, this will feel different.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with a comprehensive 60-minute psychiatric evaluation where I get to know you, your history, your goals, and what's been going on. I look at the full picture, not just symptoms. From there, we build a treatment plan together that might include medication, therapy, supplements, lifestyle changes, or a combination, depending on what makes sense for you. Follow-ups are typically every 2-4 weeks while we're getting things dialed in, then monthly once you're feeling stable. I check in between sessions and adjust as needed. The goal is always to get you feeling like yourself again, not just managed.

More information on payments and coverage

I accept major insurance plans through Headway, which handles verification, copays, and billing on your behalf. Currently in-network with Aetna, Anthem, Carelon, Cigna, Horizon, Independence, Oxford, Quest, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage and copay amounts vary by plan, so I recommend confirming your benefits with your insurance provider before your first session. For self-pay clients, rates are transparent and straightforward. Initial psychiatric evaluation (60 min) is $350. Therapy and medication management (60 min) is $200, and brief medication checks (30 min) are $150. Payment is collected at the time of service. I also offer a free 15-minute consultation for anyone who wants to connect before committing to a full session. No pressure, no obligation, just a chance to see if we're a good fit. Sliding scale and first responder discounts are available on a case-by-case basis. If cost is a barrier, reach out, and we'll figure something out. Financial stress shouldn't stand between you and getting help.
