About Dr. Joseph Mishell
Dr Joseph Mishell has lived almost his entire life in the Chicago area. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1981. Dr Mishell then attended the University of Illinois in Chicago for medical school, internship and residency in Otolaryngology. He completed his training after being chief resident in 1990.
Dr. Mishell joined North Shore Ear, Nose, and Throat Associates immediately following residency. He practices all aspects of general Otolaryngology with special interests in sinus disorders and pediatric Otolaryngology. He especially enjoys working with families. It is gratifying treating different members of the same family including the children of previous pediatric patients.
Doctor Mishell finds all aspects of medicine fascinating and was attracted to Otolaryngology due to its diversity. The specialty encompasses the treatment of all age groups, office practice and surgery. There is a wide spectrum of disorders that touch on many medical disciplines. Dr Mishell enjoys bringing an approach to treatment that tries to bring all of these aspects together in a thorough manner. He also strongly believes in compassionate care and good listening. Dr Mishell has received Top Doctor awards on different occasions from various rating agencies.
Dr Mishell lives in Northbrook, is married to Amy and has 3 children. He enjoys movies, reading, music, exercise, politics and spending time with his family.

Tracy their audiologist is a person you can trust. She knows her stuff and you feel she is giving you solid information. Making the transition to hearing aids is trouble enough. Traversing the multitude of hearing aid choices even more daunting. But I believe making right choice and an informed one.

He seemed a little all over the place. Had a cauterization done and then after stuck a few more Q-tips in noose. I winched and he said interesting there is nothing on this and you’re in pain by the cauterization didn’t hurt?! They both hurt I just at the end couldn’t handle the pressure for being pushed on for a long time. I thought was very odd and like he just wanted to be done with seeing me. What is every ENT office ancient looking with really old equipment?

Dr Mishell is simply the best. I feel so comfortable in his presence, and doctor visits make me extremely anxious. I would recommend him to anyone. He listens and cares, and you feel like you can discuss your issues on a very human level and not just a clinical level. The level of care is just top notch. The exams/consults are very thorough, and you leave feeling like all of your questions and concerns were properly addressed. I was very nervous about getting scoped in my sinuses and throat, but it all went smoothly with minimal discomfort. Plus, the offices are run extremely well and scheduling an appointment is much easier than through the larger networks, where it can be many months before you can see a specialist. Wish I hadn’t wasted months worrying about my issue and just made the appointment sooner.
