“Took the time to understand my issues and asked great questions. Quickly ruled out the more severe mental health conditions to concentrate on my issues. Before prescribing or modifying current meds & doses, he takes a holistic treatment approach by first prescribing targeted dietary, exercise, organizational techniques that align with my issues. ”

Getting to know Joseph Walker

In our work together, you can expect personalized, holistic care. I will take the time to get to know you, understand your challenges, and focus care on meeting your goals. Our sessions are a safe, non-judgmental space where you can be heard and receive the care you need. What to expect when we meet We follow up-to-date clinical guidelines to guide you through four phases of care. Our first session will be 60 to 90 minutes long, and we will emerge from this meeting with a diagnosis and a treatment plan. This meeting is long enough for you to feel comfortable and to get a comprehensive assessment of your needs. The phases of care Initiation Phase (Getting started) — One to three sessions Our first sessions focus on getting to know you and making a plan for your treatment, health, and goals. We will create a complete care plan tailored to your needs. The first meeting includes a DSM-based interview to determine your diagnosis. Other sessions place this diagnosis in the context of your life and tailor a treatment plan. You may be started on medication and appropriate therapies during this phase. Acute Care Phase (Starting Treatment) In follow-ups, we monitor your progress and assess if the care plan is working. The plan is updated based on emerging needs or goals. Medications may be adjusted, and therapies added or changed. Expect frequent meetings as changes are made. Once symptoms improve or resolve, we move to the maintenance phase. I hold a Master’s degree in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Georgia Southern University and a Bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State University, which inform my evidence-based, compassionate approach to care.

I was looking for a psychiatrist for my manic symptoms because I didn’t know how nurses practitioner were different. I was amazed that he was very knowledgeable about medicine and its interaction, he said what I have is temporary and it’s mood spectrum disorder, not bipolar. I was so relieved to hear that. He pointed out that the infection I was told I have at the emergency room the other day could be the main reason for my illness. Besides changing my medication for now so I can get decent sleep, he told me to start taking antibiotics for the infection. It was yesterday and I feel like I’m healed today. I should not be too happy but I’m so greatful I met him. Not sure any provider would have told me to do the same.

Overall experience was great. Completing the forms ahead of the appointment allowed us to get right into what I was looking for, to ensure I was being treated properly and had the right diagnosis. Joseph was very thorough in his questions and allowed me time to ask my questions. He didn't rush to prescribe medication which is refreshing. He explained his diagnosis and offered suggestions to address my anxiety in addition to treating the problem. I appreciate his approach and highly recommend Joseph
