Marriage and Family Therapist
CA
Hi, I'm Julia. I love hearing your story. I believe everything that comes up naturally in the course of our 50 minutes together is valuable and worth exploring. I can't wait to learn more about you, help you navigate this complicated life stage, and feel ready for what's next. The therapeutic relationship can be incredibly healing and is the ?secret sauce? of therapy (not some elusive technique or magical strategy, believe it or not!). That's why, at the core of my practice, is a genuine care for, and connection with, my clients. You're overwhelmed, feeling unable to surmount this latest obstacle. Perhaps it's a tricky stage of parenting, a relationship that isn't going well, a big life change, or just your own self-doubt which seems to have ballooned out of nowhere. You long to feel like you have a better grasp on things, are more in control, and can cope with whatever challenges might lie ahead. I earned my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California Capital Campus, which has equipped me with the skills to help you move through complicated feelings, recognize your strengths, and reshape your ideas of who you are. Together we'll find out if this obstacle really is ?insurmountable,? or if you already have all the skills and tools you need to overcome. Let's get started.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In our work together, I’ll listen carefully to what you’re saying (or trying to say, or maybe even not saying!) I’ll summarize what you’ve told me in a way that helps expand your self-understanding, so you can better articulate your experience. We’ll organize your thoughts together, modify statements that aren’t accurate, and help you formulate your ideas more clearly, in order to communicate with your loved ones and get what you need. You’ll have a clearer understanding of yourself, your unique abilities and desires, and better communication & relationships.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first meeting, I'll gather a comprehensive history of the problem that's brought you here, and we'll establish your goals for treatment. As therapy proceeds, we'll track you progress in a couple of ways. I'll have you "self-monitor," or keep track of your symptoms, to see if they're increasing, decreasing, or staying the same. You'll also complete questionnaires every so often to track your symptoms. Along the way, you'll learn some science-based skills to improve your habits. We'll also make time to talk about whatever feels most pressing or relevant that week. Once your goals are met, you can end your treatment, or set a new goal! The length of your treatment, and when treatment ends, is completely up to you.
